Long term effects AFTER withdrawing from Effexor

Posted by DissidentDaughter @dissidentdaughter, Aug 4, 2018

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience like this. I weaned off Effexor three years ago. After doing so I have gradually developed what is now becoming debilitating chronic pain. I am wondering if there is any way that being on Effexor for 15 years could have caused me to develop this pain now that I am not on it anymore. Thanks for your thoughts. I can’t seem to find any direct related research on this.

I have been on Effexor for probably 15 years, I’m 67 and been on Antidepressants and Ant-anxiety almost all my like . I weaned my self Effexor about 6 months ago, and I have noticed the same thing. My pain especially in my back is horrible. I know in the past I was on Antidepressants for my Fibromyalgia, I hadn’t realized till just a few days ago this is what could be making me hurt so much more. I’ve considered going back on , but not sure.

How long was your taper?

There really are some things that just can’t be chalked off to withdrawal. Take this up with your doctor and see if your symptoms could be anything physical. If all comes back well then maybe the Effexor. Don’t just assume it’s the Effexor.

I am doing more meditation and breathing work than I ever have in my life. Meditation truly does help.

It's so hard to know what the best thing to do is, so you have to make a list of pros and cons. I know when I made the list, it made me more sure to not get back on it all. I just don't want to put up with the side effects of taking Venlafaxine any more. If they're some other medicine you can take for the fibromyalgia pain that isn't an antidepressant?

Hi all,
I was on Effexor for the last year and few months for depression and anxiety. I felt it contributed to a ton of weight gain and feeling very sluggish. My doctor agreed to taper be down and switch to a diff med.it took from March up until last week. When I got to the lowest dose I realized how manic and overly emotional I felt, then we added in 10 mg of prozac after my last Effexor pill and I continue to feel sad helpless , And depressed from this withdrawal . All my feelings are at 100 and my obsessive thoughts are baxk. My doctor said it would take 5 weeks to get prozac in , I couldn’t wait and I’m back on Effexor 2 days waiting for it to kick in It’s been a rough time I’m wondering if I’ll ever be able to change a medication

I stopped taking this last October as well and started having sever thorasic and neck pain soon after. Just started taking gabipentin for the pain. Just connecting now that stopping this drug which was probably masking my pain made the other flare up or seem to - thank you for sharing.
