Lingering dry nasal passageways

Posted by amwiz41891 @amwiz41891, Mar 12, 2022

Hello, at about two weeks into Covid and now still at 11 weeks, I’ve had no moisture/mucous in my nose. If I get anything out, it’s stringy white and opaque. I’ve had other post Covid issues that come and go…from lip tingling, Covid tongue, dry mouth, loss of smell and taste, regained but not 100%. Going to a third ENT and a long haul Covid clinic in the coming weeks. Thanks

While I can not comment specifically to the post Covid Long Haul symptoms, I can comment about the lingering dryness, dry nasal passages.

While 11 weeks seems like an eternity when you are unwell. To the body it is just a small blip of time in the process of healing. Your body is recovering from a more intense virus than usual, so it naturally will take a little longer to return to homeostasis.

I can tell you that seeing an ENT will do nothing for you. They have nothing different to offer suggest when it comes to virus/cold recovery than a PCP. While tempting to want to see them for dryness/congestion type feelings there is truly nothing they can do. They are surgeons FIRST and foremost. Outside of what your PCP can offer, they can only visual see things with a longer scope. They will do it due to the appt you’ve made. They can tell you what they observe of your mucous membranes. Outside of that they want to be performing surgery on people.

Allow yourself the total overall body approach you need to heal from a virus. Overly hydrate, high nutrient dense fruits/vegetables and vitamin supplementation for healthy immune system. Focus on immune support overall.
Try not to focus just on appointments for one specific area. And be cautious when getting advice to use nasal sprays and rinses for dryness.
At the risk of sounding harsh, if you are on your 3rd ENT, you are truly waisting your energy.

Welcome @amwiz41891, I'm glad you are seeking consultation at a COVID clinic. I agree with @nrd1 that this may give you a more holistic approach to your COVID syndrome than seeing yet another ENT.

Hi. Are your issues eventually resolved? I unfortunately got Covid in beginning of May and have same problems as you. It’s driving me crazy. I hope there’s an end soon. Thx

Hi Colleen. Could u please help me find out if amwiz41891 (@amwiz41891) ever recovered from his/her condition of extremely dry nasal passageway. I am suffering from the same symptoms, and it's driving me nuts. If recovered, how long did it take? Please help. Thx.

Has anyone experienced very dry nasal passage (almost no mucus), dry mouth, dry eyes, clogged ears (which make me very dizzy). If so, will it get resolved over time? Help!!

My husband and I both had very mild cases of COVID in late Nov early December. Bad cold, with exhaustion, a cough and conjunctivitis. I’m not sure our eyes will ever be normal again. I also have all of the other symptoms you mentioned. 🤷‍♀️. We’ve both had several rounds of different eye meds and have had some improvement, but we’re not at our pre-COVID status yet.

Per opthamoligist, I use artificial tears and microwave warm eye mask 4x day. Eye dryness had led to Meibomitis. Took 3mos but much normal again.
Audiologist has me put drop of oil in each ear at bedtime.
I heat a cup of water in microwave & inhale the steam.....but now humid summer weather in Michigan has improved nasal passages.
No cures, just treating symptoms.

Have you tried a cool mist humidifer? I use it for my dry eyes and it helps also with dry nose. I also recently had puntum plugs (sp?) put in my eyes and they have been a game changer for dry eyes. Perhaps some of your medications could be drying you out as well. Have your pharamacist look up your meds and see if any of them are drying. Prayers & Blessings....
