Anyone on Lexapro? Do you like it? Does it work? How do you feel?

@frouke if Lexapro does not work well with you after a trial period, ask your doctor to put you on Zoloft antidepressant.

I avoided antidepressants till I couldn’t so my doctor put me on Zoloft because she says it is well tolerated, and can be discontinued more easily than other antidepressants.

I started on one 25mg. capsule for two weeks and then on two 25mg. capsules. I hope to be on them only through the winter. It needs to be taken with food, especially if you have GERD.

@rashida Thank you Rashida, I was so stressed out because I’m not very keen taking these meds and I always give up when they start giving me side effects, I was started on 5 mg. and after a few days I lowered it to 2.5 mg. which I’m tolerating better, I wanted to take Zoloft but it’s a capsule and I can’t reduce the dose, Escitalopram is a pill so I can cut it in quarters, if I don’t feel good after another week I will ask for another pill.

I’m six days into Escitalopram and I feel so bad, headaches, restlessness etc., I don’t want to stop yet because I’m very depressed and anxious and I know that I need help. It’s not the first time I have tried to use antidepressants but I don’t cope well with the onset and all the side effects. I started taking 5 mg and had to reduce it to 2.5 mg, I know it’s a low dose but being very thin from years of stress and heading to my third battle with lung cancer I need something to help me cope, perhaps if anyone else has used this medication they can help me feel less anxious, hopefully 🙏

@frouke
I have been on Escitalopram (10 mg) since 2015 with no side effects and a definite help with my depression and anxiety.

It just amplifies that everyone reacts different to medications and you and your doctors need to find what works for you not just statistics.

I read you are under tremendous stress. Has your doctors mentioned taking XANAC?

I want to pass on a personal experience that shows why we need to find a medication that works for you. Mayo Jacksonville (when I was having PTSD anxiety/panic) put me on a sleep medication Ambien. It did not work at all. She then changed it to Trazodone. It worked and got good night sleep. It is why important to reach out to your doctors and find a medication that helps you as an individual.

@jc76 I take lorazepam and it helps me to cope with my side effects from the new medication, my concern is that I had to increase my dose and I really didn’t want to do that, I will try to reduce it again when I feel better otherwise I’ll get overwhelmed, thanks for your input.

Has anyone had good success in using escitalopram for anxiety disorder? If so, how long did you take the drug before it started to work? I’m skeptical about SSRIs for anxiety.

@meingan: I’ve been on Escitalopram for a couple years (began with 5mg & now on 10mg). In my experience I noticed a “lighter load” within the first week. If I mistakenly miss a dose I can tell I am having a bad day. This told me I need this drug to keep me emotionally balanced. Success!

@dbamos1945 Thank you so much for responding. I’m absolutely frightened of drugs and this gives me hope. God bless you. 🙏

After 52 years of marriage, my wife passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home which shocked me. After a week of high blood pressure, my doc put me on 10 mg and that was in Feb 2025. I am still on 10 mg and getting by well. Recently, same doc said for me to stay on the 10 mg which I plan to do. I calmed me down and took the edge off. For me, no side effects but it can also depend on other meds or supplements you are taking. Best to you.

I took it for 4 days and quit on the 5th. First day I experienced complete numb feeling in my genitals. It completely felt like nothing was there. By the 3rd day it was no better, called the doctor and with details just said I wanted to quit. He said cut the pill in half and take 5mg for 2 days and quit I took 1 day of 5mg then quit completely. All is well now. I guess I'll deal with my anxiety. I had no depression so I cant elaborate on how it does with that.

@doane this is not rare at all. The doctors do not admit that it’s dangerous I have had a horrific experience and tapered off after 8 years of that poison

@azientarsky
What was the experience you had that was horrific?
Please let me know. I’m on it
