Leukemia patient! I am searching for Health Care And an Oncologist.
I am losing my health care in California by moving to Arizona.
I am being treated for Leukemia. My current oncologist has strongly advised that I obtain a new oncologist associated with the Mayo Clinic.
I am on Medicate. Can someone recommend a healthcare system here with connections to the Mayo Clinic!
Thank you for your help!

Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans usually include Mayo.
I agree with your oncologist. You want Mayo.
Hi @dennisj76,
You might try Mayo Clinic itself by requesting an appointment. They are located in Phoenix AZ. Here is a link to get you started. http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63.
Here is another link to check out first. It addresses Medicare information:

Another option besides Mayo Clinic would be a facility within the Mayo Clinic Care Network. This consists of independent healthcare organizations that collaborate with Mayo Clinic to access its clinical expertise and resources.
Here is a map of available clinics who meet the high standards of Mayo. Arizona State University Hospital is a member. You might want to check with an oncologist from that medical facility.

What type of leukemia do you have? Are you currently in treatment?

3 ReactionsI would definitely recommend Mayo. I go to the Rochester location, but I'm sure Phoenix is impressive as well. I've had no issues with medicare.

1 ReactionYes if you've been treated at Mayo then it makes sense to stay with them if you can. With insurance companies and reimbursement in general any change becomes difficult at best. I will also mention MDAnerson is also a possibility and have many satellites around the country even though the stag ship is in Houston..Like Mayo the flag ship is located in Minnesota they too have satellites around the country including one in Pheonix, Arizona ..Sentor John McCann had his treatment at Mayo in Pheonix...I wish you all the best

1 ReactionI am in Arizona and can say nothing but good things about the mayo clinic. I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma at a local cancer clinic. I called Mayo for a second opinion, all i had to do was send them my records. they called me back in a couple of days and got me in right away for a meeting with a Hematologist/oncologist.
I have Medicare with a G plan secondary and yet to receive a bill for any service, countless blood tests weekly treatments, stem cell transplants all of it has been covered. It is my understanding they will not take Advantage plan insurance.
I have a close friend who is at City of Hope in Phoenix and he is in remission, he speaks highly of them as well.
If they will accept you, I totally agree with Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medicare Supplement, I also have a Blue Cross G plan and the only thing I pay is the annual Part B deductible.
Best wishes, Eileen
Its not clear from person asking question if he/she on Medicare or Medicaid. They are very different. Paying for G requires a person to have a separate drug plan as well and some people cannot afford that cost, although the coverage is great.
@loribmt Oh Thank You so very much for this information!!
I am in remission from leukemia Mylitus (sp?).
This past year I have been commuting to Sacramento, CA for my Chemotherapy...for several reasons. My Oncologist there feels I need to get established with an Oncologist here and especially one associated with the mayo clinic. In doing so I need to find a Medicare Healthcare plan here. I am now living in Sun City West by the way.
