Knee Replacement while undergoing MAC treatment

Posted by paxmundi @paxmundi, Jun 1 11:29am

Has anyone here had a knee replacement while undergoing MAC treatment?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the MAC & Bronchiectasis Support Group.

I need a knee replacement due to a torn meniscus and advanced arthritis. The orthopedic surgeon said he would not consider me a candidate until the lungs are cleared of MAC. Very discouraging. Will try getting a second opinion.

Were you able to ask Dr. Zha about knee replacement with undergoing treatment for BE/MAC?
Hope your visit was what you wanted it to be.

@blm1007blm1007 She didn’t object but mentioned that if I am loud on Plavix for my stroke risk, then I would need to go off that for at least eight days prior to surgery.

I liked Dr. Zha. Still figuring out all the logistics of starting treatment, which she strongly recommends. Hope you are well, Barbara!

@paxmundi Great "I liked Dr. Zha.:" Especially since she is known to be a good doctor.
What we don't have to do to correct what is failing us.
Makes me think, and quietly thank, of all those who came before us that helped bring about the medical devices, medications and medical changes etc. to allow us more time walking this earth with all those who mean much to us.
It seems that our tasks, searches, decisions are never ending...."all the logistics."
Thanks, yes I am well....in spite of the BE/MAI. My daily mantra is: "I'm managing" .......when anyone asks 'how are you.'
I was glad to see a paxmundi post and know you were seeing Dr. Zha.
Wishing you an easy go of it given the 'logistics' before you.
For me, it's finishing up the Estate Plan revisions and clearing out what I need to clear out of my home so that I have less to have around me etc. and less for another, my sister, to have to possibly deal with in the future.
Keep me, us, posted in between when you can and feel up to it.
