Kidney angiogram: What is it like? Why did you have it done?

@nycmusic I am not a medical professional. In doing a search with the wording of "what is advanced ultrasound" there are several resources for you to look up. In my humble opinion, a CKD patient should be speaking with their nephrologist for their thoughts on the best method moving forward. I can tell you that my oncologist and nephrologist work closely to figure out the best things in my own situation. And remember to to keep in mind your current stage of disease, to remind your medical team, just in case! You have the final say-so.

Advanced ultrasound can be used in pregnancy or kidney disease situations in order to not promote negative side effects. But not all imaging centers offer that, so it might be a challenge there.

@gingerw thanks yet again, Ginger…your posts are always helpful…I believe my medical center—NYPresbyterian, has it…so far, I have not ‘’officially’’ been diagnosed with CKD, but certain #s are concerning, so I want to 1) change my diet. 2)educate myself ..when I see my oncologist and primary in coming weeks, I trust they will guide me well and refer me to a nephrologist when necessary…your posts help me formulate good questions in the too short medical appointments. Thank you.

@nycmusic Good for you, I am so happy to hear you are advocating for yourself! Knowledge is power, as we like to say. It used to be my medical teams over the years were upset when I brought questions or concerns to them. I recall one PCP telling me I knew more about kidney disease than he did! We are the ones with the biggest stake in our health. Never forget we are part of the team, and deserve to have our questions/concerns addressed!

Dietary changes are best done in small steps, and no time like the present. Don't let your doctor tell you, "no need to change anything". Do it now and it won't seem so difficult later. And may retard numbers changing in a direction we don't want to go.

@gingerw Another thank you ! Your wise counsel definitely gives me the confidence that I can do this, and hope to do it well.

I have had ongoing stomach aches for over a month & finally had a combination colonoscopy/ endoscopy which then led to a C T Angiogram & then a Kidney Ultra Sound as they saw a lesion on my kidney. Now I am awaiting the results & am scared as it could be cancer. What else besides diet affects the kidneys?? K

@kayraymat Sending you hugs of support. Waiting for any type of test results can cause such anxiety, definitely! When do you get a chance to review everything with the doctor?

Chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, medication side effects, and genetic factors can affect the kidneys.

I do have an appt with our family doctor tomorrow so he may have the results of
the kidney ultra sound that I had on Friday.
I take a sleeping med so know I won't lose sleep over it....hope it isn't the Trazadone that
is causing the kidney problem as it helps me to get a good night's sleep.
