Do you have experience with ketamine treatments?

Does anyone have any experience with ketamine treatments? Either as part of a clinical trial or otherwise?

I took 1 ketamine infusion 2 weeks ago for severe depression and now my brain fog is worse and I have disassociation feelings where I feel like I am in in a dream state. I really regret taking it. They gave me 1 mg/kg for a total of 60 over 1 hr. I heard .5 was a better doseage. Does anyone know of any medications I can take to deal with these symptoms? I am worried I did long term damage to my brain. My brain fog is the worst in the morning and it gets a little better by midday but it is always there. I also take Seroquel at night. Is it a combination of the Seroquel and Ketamine?. I am desperate to feel better.

I took ketamine on Friday. 51mg over 40minutes. My brain feels like it’s foggy and slow. I also feel like I’ve done permanent damage. Did you recover?

I for the first time had barely started my first injection of ketamine and within minutes felt like my entire body was on fire and going to explode! Luckily my husband was with me in the room and the doctor was alerted who stopped the rest of the ketamine therapy immediately but it took nearly an hour before I felt like I wasn’t going to die. The clinic I was at had never had someone react that way. Needless to say I am putting ketamine as an allergy on my medical records. I cannot take it!

I have been tapering off Cymbalta and now on 20mg, and just started Pristiq 50mg about 14 days ago. How long does it take for Pristiq to really kick in? Also, experiencing anxiety through all of this. Thank goodness I have Ativan 0.5mg for the anxiety. I also have lost a lot of weight through all of this. Anyone else that have gone through this? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

I’ve been on Spravato since the end of April. I’ve tried nearly every antidepressant there is. None worked very well at all. Spravato has worked for me. I don’t think about suicide at all. It’s given me more hope and motivation. Side effects aren’t too bad. It makes me feel high and tired on treatment days. I’ve also had some nausea on occasion at the higher dose. Your doctor can give you anti-nausea medication for this. Everyone reacts differently to Spravato. I definitely recommend giving it a try. It’s very inexpensive with most insurance. Also, ask about the observation rebate program.

Does it only help with depression? A nurse told me that it’s the closest thing to a cure for bipolar. I’m assuming that’s not true?

Hello all.
Thanks for including me in the discussion. I started Spravato treatments in 2019. I might be providing TMI, or as I like to think, I offer a different perspective.

At that time, the provider wasn't following the strict protocols. For example, a TV was on in the room. That provider discontinued treatments. Perhaps too many patients were going to the ER.

With my current provider,--of almost two years--we follow strict guidelines:
•I take medications to control my BP, anxiety, and nausea prior to treatment
•no cell phone or TV during treatment
•low watt blue/white lamp

About seven years ago, I had Gene Sight testing. SSRIs are in the red. Old-fashioned desipramine has worked much better.
Even with all the chemistry, I still remember that meds are only a component of my well-being. I see my psychiatrist every other week and therapist on alternate weeks. I've returned to teaching to use my brain as effectively as possible. With every psychiatrist I've seen, they've had their own strengths and philosophies. What I've learned about my brain is that it has the potential to heal itself and create new pathways. I know it's more complicated than that. However, I relate to, " if you don't use it, you lose it."
So, the mental stimulation and the social aspects are helping, too.

Am I perfect? No, never was, never will be...lol.

Am I better?

Yes.

Will I stay better?

Yes, it helps some people with depression. My depression is a million times better. It is not approved to treat bipolar so I don’t know if it would help with that. It might at least help with the depression side of bipolar. It’s inexpensive if you have insurance.

Beejaykay, I am also allergic to it. I wish I had been offered an iv of saline to flush it out of my system.

I had 6 IVs of it over 1.5 weeks. On the 6th day, I dev a huge hive on my Rt leg. I felt more pain then than I did before I had a single bit of ketamine. Why don’t they first inject a little under the skin of the forearm to see if a person is allergic? Also why were you and I not offered an IV of saline to flush it out of our system bc here I am 1.5 yrs later with burning headaches after eating any food and on days the temp outside is very cold. And I’ve lost muscle.

That would have been good. I wasn’t given that either.
I hope you are okay now.

I have tried Spravato and had very positive experience for months and then it peaked out. My psych said that happens with some. She then pute on a new med Auvelity that if different than any other antidepressant in that it impacts same neurotransmitters that Spravato does. It's been about 1month and so far so good.
