Kaleidoscope vision?

Posted by apteryx @apteryx, 4 days ago

Has anyone experienced this? Like looking through shards of broken glass with shimmering on the peripheries. Random and intermittent events, lasting ten to thirty minutes several times per day, then none for several days then starts again. No pain. I saw an ophthalmologist in case of retinal detachment.

“Kaleidoscope vision is a temporary vision change, usually lasting less than an hour, that causes you to see fractured images, shapes, and swirling colors. It is typically a symptom of an ocular migraine or a migraine with aura, but it also occurs with conditions including multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke, and diabetes. Kaleidoscope vision can be a sign of more serious conditions, including seizures and stroke, so it’s important to see a healthcare provider if it is the first time you're experiencing it.” American Academy of Ophthalmology
I never have migraines, nor have diabetes, MS etc. He didnt appear to have heard of it and reported that it had resolved as I didnt have it during the visit. Any suggestions for remedy appreciated.

I also have had this for about 20 years. My ophthalmologist said they are like the aura of a migraine without the migraine. It lasts 15-20 minutes. Mine I call the "sparklies" because I see a sparkly crescent shape that if I'm reading, part of a sentence (a few words ) are missing. It only concerned me the first time. I know it will pass and I can go on with whatever work I'm doing (except reading😊).

@greengold
same here I've had them for over 35 years. They started after I had a detached retina so of course it scared the bej*sus out of me. But I had a great retinal specialist and he also told me they were the migraine without the migraine. I had them fairly often and then they just went away.
