Just wondering...sometimes after the call, it doesn't work out?

My husband is waiting for a liver. I've read and heard that sometimes you get the call only to find out after you get to the hospital that it won't work. Does this happen often? I don't remember being told this in any of our appointments. I want my husband to be prepared in case it happens to him.

@keggebraaten So happy to hear that this place will be demolished/replaced. I knew it wasn't a matter of just housekeeping; so much needed replaced. We did rent an apartment for 3 months which was wonderful (Ocean Park).

@jeanne5009 It is advertised as a Marriott property. So convenient for very early tests but no place for anyone with respiratory issues (or anything else). It was very expensive -- appalling.

renaefield @renaefield, Welcome to Connect. I am a liver/kidney recipient, but I am not sure that I can begin to imagine the disappointment you must have experienced. (I did learn after my transplant that my team had rejected organs for me on several occasions).

Connect is where we can share our experience and learn from each other. In the transplant group there is a wide variety of topics and conversatioins happening. How far do you live from your transplant center?
How do you feel? Have you been given any indicatioin of why they sent you home, or how long you might have to wait until transplant?

@renaefield I can only imagine the disappointment to be sent home after having your hopes up. I have heard that can happen quite a lot. I was fortunate, it never did for me.
I don't think my transplant center ever did reject an organ that they were considering for me, because I am sure they would have called as soon as one was available for me to be there and ready if there was an organ. As it was, when I got the call they did not have the liver in my transplant center yet. They told me to get there right away, so I did, getting there at about 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon. The transplant did not occur until 12:30 A.M.
@rosemarya asks some good questions, I am interested in also.

@renaefield I can't imagine being called and then sent home 6 times! I'm so thankful my husband was blessed to get his transplant the first call. I am also curious as to why you've had so many calls. Prayers you get your transplant soon.
