Journaling - The Write Stuff For You?
Long ago –okay, for me, it was long ago!- it was common for a young person to keep a diary, a place to write down the heartaches and giggles of growing up, the trials and tribulations of school, friendships, sports and activities. Sometimes it was a locked book, so that we felt secure knowing our secret thought remained a secret.
How times have changed! While I no longer keep a classic diary, it is no less important for me to write down thoughts, ideas, and heaven-knows-what, on a regular basis. Nowadays, the common name is a “journal”, and seems to appeal to every segment of society. There are an abundance of ways to do this, and so many reasons why. Although I prefer longhand, many people use a computer, and there are any number of prompts/styles/methods.
Let’s explore this together!
Do you journal? What prompted you to start? What would you tell someone who wants to start?

@pvctom2021 We don't realize how much that dominant hand or arm is in use until we cannot use it for a while. Bless you for helping your wife, perhaps to your frustration. I hope she can gradually start using that arm more, and find the bracing she uses is really helping.
Hoping you get out for your walk today, and can convince your wife to go along with you, if you'd like. Perhaps you need that time alone, thought. Wishing your reciprocal peace and happiness!

This is a little fun resource for writers:
a dictionary of unusual words:

Here's one:
abatjour skylight or device to direct light into a room
Back about 10 or more years ago, we saw Coleman Barks reading Rumi at the Dodge Poetry Festival.
He was walking around the site, handing sheets of paper to high school students.
It was lists of unusual words...
We thought that was all great fun...
Hello to all
It has been awhile since I’ve posted..my wife’s right humerus is healing ❤️🩹 accordingly with some pain associated with certain movements….but she’s doing I think well…and the PA feels that way also judging from our last visit and the last X-ray.
My anxiety is very intense lately..I’ve had stomach flu or Colitis and inflammation of the large intestine for a month now…loose stools, stomach spasms, intermittent naval pain…I’m a wreck and this exacerbates my GI problems..Telemed with my PCM tomorrow..Finally got an appointment with my GI specialist on 2 Aug…I have been in the ER twice, they did blood work, CT scan which revealed no bowel obstruction, no aortic aneurysm but diverticuli…I was put on a week of Augmenting, then back in the 2nd trip to the ER …10 days of Cipro…so far not much improvement…waiting to see what my doctor tells me on the Telemed tomorrow and what GI doctor does on the 2nd Aug…that’s living in the world today for me…May all who come here have a good week and weekend.🙏pvctom
@pvctom2021 I wonder if your anxiety and all the gut symptoms are related? For me, that has been the case in the past, anyway. Fortunately the 2 Aug appointment is not too far off, and by now you have had the telehealth appt with your primary care person. Were they able to help you at all?
You seem to be such a sensitive person, accepting the feelings and strifes of others along with your own situation. That has to be difficult! So glad to hear your wife is doing better.

Thanks 🙏 for your support and kind reply..my Telemed helped in as much as the doctor knows me fairly well over the years and he practiced a gentle approach over the phone.. advised me to not read too much into the asymmetrical thickening of the sigmoid colon…I’m due for a colonoscopy anyway…but he called me in some Amoxicillin in case the diarrhea started up again…we are living in an extremely crowded aging society where getting a GI specialist
Appointment may take 6 to 7 weeks…but I’m thankful for this visit coming up…I thank you and others here for your warm replies and support…many thanks 🙏 hope you and family are doing well 🙂
It’s good 😊 here.. pvctom
Thank you 🙏 Ginger
I think you have a good point about anxiety and it’s effects on the whole GI track…from what I’ve read it can cause a lot of the symptoms I’m having…thanks for your helpful comment….🙏
It’s another day in the world today….Hello to all…
Well morning anxiety rang the bell this morning early on with a trip to the bathroom and a lower cramping feeling … fortunately I only had to urinate.. I have been doing ok without taking any of the new antibiotics that I asked my PCM to call in Friday in case the diarrhea returned..
The support and reactions I get here help me so much…I have been eating and enjoying peach 🍑 flavored yogurt with live and active cultures….and I really enjoy it…it makes my gut feel better, almost a soothing treat…
I have read and been supported with opinions that I agree with on anxiety and GI problems…my GI appointment is getting closer….my wife’s Telemed is today and I’m hoping it goes well… I love this Mayo Connect Forum and all of the support groups that are available to follow…May all who come here have a safe and healthy week.. 🙏pvctom
@pvctom2021 Hoping to hear your wife's Telemed appointment goes well. How do they check her healing by distance, is what I want to know!
Write a letter to the peaches of summer, for their refreshing taste and the memories it springs in you!
