Jogging, Breathing and Bronchiectasis

Posted by brdross @brdross, Nov 13, 2023

I would like to start jogging again since my bronchiectasis is under control. I've been walking regularly, but I always enjoyed jogging because of its higher aerobic benefits. When I jog though, my mouth is open to get more air into my system which is a normal for runners. My logic tells me that by doing this, I'm breathing in more of the harmful stuff in the air that started my pseudomonas infection. Wearing a mask is difficult while exercising, so I'm wondering if jogging is worth the risk and should I just scrap the idea.

@brdross don't laugh but -- you could try taping your mouth while jogging. Mouth taping is a thing, which I've been using during sleep for 18+ months. It helps prevent dry mouth in the a.m. which I loathe. Can't sleep without it! Athletes are known to use mouth taping to improve performance and regular people too.

How did you get diagnosed with bronchiectasis? Do you have bad breath or smelly mucus with this?
