Is this RLS (restless leg syndrome)?

Posted by Darlia @darlia, Oct 14, 2017

I have been a member of Mayo Connect in other groups too. I am trying to find out if the symptoms I have in my muscles is connected to anything I already have been diagnosed with.
Also, would it be a Rheumatologist or Orthopedic Dr. That I need for this? I asked the Rheumo and they said it's nothing that they handle. But I would think they would because it feels like muscles.
At night while relaxing, my legs get restless, want to tense up, like on rubber bands. Then my right arm, just my forearm starts to feel the same. Then it makes me put my hand into a "claw" as it intensifies.
Any clues anyone?

Hello @btednes2015, Welcome to Connect. It can be a little scary sometimes when taking a new medication. @zenk, @sunny1971, @willows and others may be able to share their experience with you.

Have you discussed your question with your doctor or pharmacist?

This does seem to be working. I’ve been in it for 4 days now and no issues with it

Several years ago I was given Flexeril 5 mg (a prescription muscle relaxant) and it stopped the RLS completely. A mild muscle relaxant is worth a try. I couldn't tolerate Gabapentin. Hugs & Prayers....

I felt like a zombie even on the lowest dose of Gabapentin, 100 mg. But, I am ultra senstive to meds and take about 1/4-1/2 of what a normal person takes. A lot of folks can tolerate Gabapentin and get great results.
Praying for you my friend!

@btednes2015 I don’t know what’s worse, dealing with RLS or dealing with a new medication! I’ve has RLS for more than 10 years, but didn’t know I could take medications for it. I entered the link to Mayo Clinic’s website for drugs. This lists lots of side effects, but you should know that drug companies are required to list ALL the effects even if only one person experienced it.

I hope this sets your mind at ease a little.
Can you post the lists, you find on the site, in the bathroom until you become more comfortable?
