Is there any medication to help my asthma go away?

Posted by jenniferguajardo @jenniferguajardo, 2 days ago

I am on 200mcg of Trelegy and take 10mg of montelukast. They have helped some but still have an asthma attack every time I go outside. The attacks aren't as intense as they once were. Just wondering what may be added or changed to relieve the attacks. Or is it just something I just need to get use to

I think that it takes time to get the right medication and dosage, over time you can feel what works best for you. I’ve had to change medication several times before they got it right, you might have some allergies that are causing more discomfort because you mentioned having an asthma attack when you go outside, perhaps you should mention this to your doctor and prescribe something extra to help you breathe, I hope you feel better soon,

Hi, @jenniferguajardo - having an asthma attack every time you go outside sounds rough. You might ask your primary care doctor, allergist or pulmonologist, but that doesn't sound like asthma control to me.

I used to have asthma flares about quarterly, especially when coming back from being out of town. I'd almost always have to go on a 5-day course of prednisone. That worked, but prednisone has its own side effects, like only sleeping about 4 hours per night.

What's made a difference for me was taking a biologic, mepolizumab (Nucala). I no longer need the courses of prednisone, thankfully.

Is a biologic something your doctor has talked about?

@frouke thx u, I have an appointment on the 20th of this month with my specialist. I'll be getting my labs and chest X-ray results. Hopefully that will help the doctor. She talked about biologic shots. So maybe that's what she will add. Thx again I just don't know anything about asthma or know anyone who has it to talk to.

@lisalucier I was put on Methylprednisolone for 6 days. And she gave me a shot in her office. And yes she did mention I may have to do biologic shots. How often do you have to do your shots for them to help you? I see her this month on the 20th

@jenniferguajardo - I do my shot with an auto injector pen every 28 days. Except for just tracking and ordering it perfectly on time, it's no problem. I've not noticed any side effects.

@covidstinks2023 not at the moment. Maybe my pulmonary specialist will prescribe it to me when I go see her on the 20th. But not sure. She will be giving me results back from labs and my chest X-ray as well. And will lmk which type of asthma I have.

My insurance (humana) says Dupixent will cost me $500 per month copay. Does this sound right? Is it worth it? I think i have allergic asthma.
