Is there an appeal process for denied appointments?
Hi all, I just received a denial email for a comprehensive evaluation. I was just wondering if there is an appeal process for denials. I have been diagnosed with Addisons and it seems to be difficult to find a doctor who takes the time to completely understand this disease. I was so hoping that Mayo would come through for me.
Thanks,Rebecca

Hi @rmoran, the denial email is hard to take when you've invested hope in Mayo Clinic. It sounds like you’ve taken the appropriate steps to seek care at Mayo Clinic. Unfortunately Mayo Clinic has more requests for appointments than available openings.
There are a few things that you can consider, like getting your doctor to submit the referral for you. See more tips in this discussion:

What department and location did you apply to?

2 ReactionsI was told to apply for a comprehensive evaluation but I really only need to see an Endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with Addisons and I’m having a hard time in Texas finding a Dr. who wants to help. I have spoken to someone in the Endocrinology dept. this morning and I am resubmitting through them. Thanks for your quick reply!

Your welcome!
Good morning...I was just wondering if anyone knew you could be denied care from Mayo clinic. I was really hoping to get into neurology for a second opinion and further digging with my recent stroke and got an email yesterday stating it was denied.

I’m sorry to hear that you had difficulties receiving an appointment at Mayo Clinic. Unfortunately, because Mayo Clinic has more requests for appointments than available openings in certain specialty areas, they cannot fulfill all requests.
When the experts review your records and medical history, they also closely consider the care that you are currently receiving. Availability depends on the nature and urgency of the problem and Mayo Clinic's ability to help (as determined by a Mayo Clinic doctor).
Did you self-refer or did your provider refer you? If you self-referred and want to continue trying to get an appointment at Mayo, discuss a referral with your provider. Does not guarantee an appointment, but it might be worth trying.
Do you live close to a University Medical Center, which might be another option for a 2nd opinion?
