Is anyone taking testosterone injections as part of their HRT?

I am post menopausal for two months. Been on HRT (estrodiol patch and oral progesterone) for 7 months. My doctor recommended testosterone injections as part of my HRT. I tried testosterone cream but it did not help with my levels or symptoms. My blood work indicates very low testosterone levels, and I have other symptoms. I am unsure about taking injections. Is anyone taking injections and willing to share their experience. I am not interested in pellets.

No, I'm not familiar with it. I'm going to start the gel soon.

The compounded testosterone cream did not work as well for me as the estradiol testosterone pellet. Have not tried injections.

You may get more practical, experience-based information outside of the Mayo Clinic forum. Testosterone injections are actually very popular among menopausal women. Many report they’re less expensive than other forms, provide more consistent levels, and may cause fewer DHT-related side effects (like hair loss or acne) for some women.

Because it’s hard to find doctors who prescribe testosterone injections to women (outside of pellet clinics), many women rely on online providers and peer forums for guidance. The fact that your doctor is open to injections is fairly unique.

You’ll likely find better support in women-focused TRT communities, such as the private Facebook group Wake Her Up (search “testosterone injections” once inside), Reddit’s r/TRTFemales, or searching testosterone posts in r/Menopause.

Wanted to share my story - I'm post menopausal and began HRT in October 2025. Estradiol patch as well as Progesterone. My provider later started me on testosterone injections for low libido. Things went really well for months but mid May I noticed my hair thinning and becoming increasingly dry, brittle and frizzy. Labs were done and my testosterone was 251. The provider didn't seem concerned or alarmed, so I ended up going to my ob/gyn doc and ran labs as well and she was very alarmed my levels were 9 times the normal parameters and attributed my hair issues to the very high levels... So I discontinued the shots and she wants the levels to come way down and maybe visit another form of testosterone that is more conservatively absorbed on a steady basis, as with a cream. My hair has always been so thick and health - I don't even recognize it anymore!
