Invasive squamous cell carcinoma: Worry about time to treatment start

Invasive squamous cell carcinoma, well differentiated, right pre-tibia

Noticed area prior to Christma, biopsy results just came back yesterday. I chose radiation therapy (IG-SRT). My concern is the delay in starting treatment. They are booked up till March 9 and they even encouraged me to not cancel my vacation I had scheduled mid March and just go ahead and start the treatment March 30. Would this be appropriate for this type of Cancer?

@round5: you’re in the majority of people who, when hearing of a cancer diagnosis, prefer to have it treated as rapidly as possible. While that’s certainly ideal, much depends on the stage of the particular cancer as well as the grade. You mentioned yours is well-differentiated which is the more slow growing classification. That may be why your medical provider does not feel there is urgency in treatment and suggested you proceed with your vacation plans. Whether you opt to do so is a decision you’d need to consider in terms of how this may impact your enjoyment of your time away; will you be relaxed or spend the time feeling anxious about your upcoming procedure?

Have you had the opportunity to discuss the provider’s rationale for saying it’s acceptable to wait until March 30th? Perhaps hearing the medical reasons behind this might help you feel more comfortable in this approach.

@grammato3 Thank You for your input. We talked about it. I’m just an inpatient man at times 😄

@round5: I can relate to impatience - with my first child, I was practically indignant that I had to wait 9 months!!
