@mary1016 in my 19 year history of chronic pain, some doctors have been my heroes, some have been my tormentor. It seems most are out for an easy billable code of something known then to treat an unknown issue. I can’t imagine your doctor extorting you for $2500 to keep writing scripts. Should have recorded that. Gotta be illegal. Good luck and Godspeed with your journey.

4 Reactions@martyk I had my pain pump implanted just over three years ago. It has not given me any pain relief except for ONE DAY about six months ago. All my pain disappeared! I thought I had reached the perfect output. But, the next day all my pain returned. Should you get a pain pump? Difficult to say. You have to weigh all the pros and cons.

1 ReactionWell Mary for the first time I love email! I hope you take her down. She’s everything the Hippocratic oath isn’t. “Do Know Harm, Do No Harm. Godspeed!
I'm new to this page.I just looking to see if anyone else is having as much of a hard time as I have had my pump for a long long time I have had about 4 other pumps put in the one that I have in at this time has caused me to have OD'd for some reason the port's not closing or something but I have been OD'd five times with this pump one of the times I spent two and a half days in a TENS of care with a Narcan drip to bring me back alive still scary because I'm not ready to die . I don't know what to do to keep the pump or take . There has to be something going on with the pump for it to be letting the medication out like it is . Does anyone know what can do.

1 Reaction@cathmom, and all... My goodness, this is not good! I appears you are not new to the pump use and know how it should work. I am astonished you still have that pump implanted and are using it!
What do your doctors say about this? Do they suggest the pump is defective OR the catheter has moved out of proper position?
My sin has a pump with DilaudDilaudid and Backlofen that is partially keeping him from going insane from electrical nerve pain. He got a new pump last December and has had trouble with it since. Its a 'New and Improved model'... someone has a bad sense of humor! It is horribly frustrating, slow to start a bolus, has trouble getting the thing to work andcat times to charge. The has complained, asked for the older version or a different one, but to no avail. But, never any medication mess-up.
Surely your doctors must be concerned? Do they have a suggestion? If yours isclike his, the dose is strictly monitored. You should get a constant even dose, but the have a number of additional doses you arexallowed when you are in extreme pain... right? The number is controlled! The bolus dose is controlled. If your machine works as his, I see no way you can od!
Please talk with your doctor asap to get his input. And, I wouldn't stop until he explains he knows what is causing the malfunction and what he will do to resolve the issue! Be your strong advocate! Ask questions and wait for answers. THEN ask more or again until you as a team figure out how you go forward.
Are you taking any oral meds that could be adding to your dose or are contraindicated? That may certainly cause this issue. He and his docs are careful what meds he adds remembering the pump narcotics are already the base line.
Good luck with your chat. Blessings, Elizabeth
@catgmom9 I have no overdosed with my pump(have had it over three years with no pain relief except for one day). My only negative effect has been nausea and vomiting. I'm not even sure the vomiting is an after effect of the hydromorphone in my pump. I know that after I had it amped up to 4.2 mg/24 hours, I had a sudden series of vomiting. I also experienced vomiting after my two trials. First with morphine and the second with the hydromorphone. It seems very odd that this keeps happening. No one else on this site seems to have experienced this same side effect. Am I the only one. How about you?

1 Reaction@heisenberg34 and all... So sorry... the vomiting is a tough side effect and, yes, my 57 year old son experienced severe vomiting for a time, tapering to less but still there. He takes Zofran as needed if it'it's continues. I also got Bonine ear patches, for sea sickness. They do help!
I started him on an excellent daily Probiotic by Probulin. Referred by doc for my IBD. It helps him greatly with diarrhea and vomiting issues. A good add.
He has Dilaudid and Backlofen in his pump. Morphine did nothing but make him vomit. No pain relief. Dilaudid is helping.
Hope this helps you some.
Blessings, Elizabeth
