In praise of Orgovyx

Posted by northoftheborder @northoftheborder, Oct 7, 2024

I'm hardly an old vet here (my stage-4 prostate cancer was diagnosed just 3 years ago), but I've seen big changes in treatment even over that short time.

In my opinion, the biggest improvement has been Orgovyx. Getting a Firmagon injection was like having the flu, a stomach rash, and a fist-sized swollen reaction to a wasp bite ... Every. Single. Month.

The past six months on Orgovyx — just another daily pill — have been like night and day for my quality of life. I find it puzzling when I read people posting about how "awful" Orgovyx is, and then I remember that they're not comparing it to Firmagon but to life before ADT.

So maybe I am an old vet after all, since I'm comparing things to the bad old days (uphill in the snow both ways and all that). 😉

@vircet

@northoftheborder Thank you for sharing your opinion and experience with Orgovyx.

My RO initially was going to give me the injection that is good for 4 months. I said I was very concerned about its side effects.

She then prescribed Orgovyx for me, that I would have been taking for two weeks already by the time of my first SBRT treatment this April 9.

I wish you the best!

Thank you and the best to you as well.

I am off Orgovyx at the moment, and my MO says at the latest conferences, there is more talk of 'intermittent dosing' rather than constant use. I gather I was early doing the 'holidays' based on the clinical trial data I read, which never formally endorsed sporadic use. I'm having another PSA test tomorrow; so we'll see. The plan is to stay off if PSA stays below 4 for instance. Also I'm 81 now; so QOL is a focus.

I have Gleason 9 and my Orgovyx treatment will be limited to 6 mo due to my Aptera AI intermediate score
