I’m having a hard time finding something to look forward to each day
I’ve been on a bad depression for the last three years. I’m very lonely in this having a companion. I am somewhat functional during the day, but what keeps me going as I know that I can take my sleeping pill at night, Ambien and get a good nights sleep. That is what I look forward to for so many years my doctor now has tapered me off Ambien because she believes I have abused which I have to an extent.
I am on Wellbutrin for depression. I don’t see that is helping, but I am just wondering what others do to make it through the day and what they look forward to because I have lost so many of my interests.

@pml
Thank you for your lovely message. Im not sure if this is private or on the public forum.
I found private messaging once but cant find it now.
So sorry about your husband. I lost mine 2012. I sure know how it feels.
Do you know how to private. Message.
Thank you.
@anniesezu812
I'm sorry about your husband passing in 2012. I know that is hard.
To private message click on a person's name like on @pml that's written in blue. (Black won't work.) That will take you to another page. On that page in the right hand corner is an image of an envelope. Clicking on that will take you to private messaging. There might be easier ways but I don't know of them. There is a "Help" section on here also where you could ask.
Good Luck!

4 Reactions@mrmacabre what were the medicines you are now on.
@djg1951 I've been taking Nortriptyline and Duloxetine.
I suggest coming to grips with the fact that like millions of Americans you suffer from depression. Then recognize it is nothing to be ashamed of and the stigma regarding mental health is finally ending.
Try adding Zoloft and Buspar to your Wellbutrin since it has worked for me for over thirty years. I am not a doctor but a psychiatrist put me on that and it changed my life.
I went on to have a successful career in sales and raise two beautiful children and be blessed with five beautiful grandchildren.
Some of the most successful people throughout history have suffered from depression. Just be thankful that we have SSRI’s and other tools to fight it that many of them never had.
Also I recommend you see the movie “Road to nowhere “ which is based on the life of Bruce Springsteen. He is one of those people that got help and I think everyone can agree he went on to live a very successful life.
Good luck to everyone out there.

1 Reaction@djg1951 Everyone’s body chemistry reacts differently to every SSRI and although it is not easy because they can up to six weeks to start working experiment and find one that works for you. It might even be a combination of drugs.
Good luck and you are certainly not alone. Millions of people around the world suffer from depression and as more and more people go public with their struggles the stigma is going away.
I only wish the same could be said for hearing loss. Unfortunately they are still finding ways to repair or replace damaged hair cells in your inner ear. They will solve that but probably not in my lifetime. Until then we have to live with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Not ideal they continue to get better.
@daveshaw I will ask my doctor to prescribe Zoloft in addition to my busbar and Wellbutrin. That would be great if it made a difference.
Through all these posts and all the replies, I realize that peoples lives can be challenging at times or most of the times. I think it’s wonderful that people have found tools to bring joy to their life whether it’s art reading, movies, etc..
I have started watching Grey’s Anatomy now with a bowl of ice cream as my bedtime snack and that’s what I’m looking forward to in addition to my Ambien when I can sleep, but it’s now not just sleep. I have a good TV show to look forward to. my next goal is to get more fit, exercise, and hopefully find a companion to spend my golden years together.
@triciaann99 I think if you make it a point to exercise at least 5 out of 7 days that might also help with getting a good nights sleep. It makes you feel better and you might even find you enjoy it.

2 ReactionsYes, I have dealt with depression for most of my life, and I had the same thoughts. I have two suggestions: Get busy and serve people. I make a bag of stuff and in it, I pack it with things that I need to do that day (craft projects, letters to write, coupons for bread, etc.) and that day, I go through the bag and do the stuff I need to do and anything left over, I do the next day; serve people, I have become "Miss Sunshine" in my hometown, I spread a bit kindness and sunshine to people around town and do random of acts of service for people, by helping others it lifts my spirits and makes me feel good.
I am not saying that every day will be lollypops and kittens and rainbows, you will have good days and bad days, but try to find the good in things or think more positive, try to find something each day that makes you happy even for like five minutes or an hour, and then go from there.
