ICD vs other procedures

Hi all - I am new to this group. I am scheduled for an ICD in May - looking to get info on if anyone had a "septal myectomy" or alcohol septal ablation as treatment for HCM instead of the ICD? Also for those with ICD's has anyone had experiences when the ICD was triggered - anything to stay away from? I've heard sometimes the ICD may be triggered in situations that were not life threatening....almost a false positive trigger of sorts.

I am on my 3rd ICD/Pacemaker. My manufacturer is Boston Scientific, and my EP surgeon is at Mayo Jacksonville.

The improvement of ICDs and Pacemaker devices have dramatically improved over the years. Many many things that could trigger a false shock have been prevented by new and improved devices.

The new ICD/Pacemakers are MRI compliant. In the past you could not have a MRI unless they took very significant procedures to lessen the complications of the MRI could have on your ICD or pacemaker.

When the first smart keys came out for your car a warning came out from ICE/Pacemaker companies to keep them away from ICD/Pacemakers. That has changed now and mine says is no longer an issue but do not place directly over the device.

I can't comment on the new devices and what can trigger your device. You need to talk to your EP or surgeon that puts it in. AND also follow up with manufacturer who usually have excellent web sites that you can ask question specifically to your make and mode.

At least with the older ones it was electrical devices to keep away from your device and that included your I phone. And things like microwave and walking through metal detectors like at stores and TSA. I used to have to get a pat down at TSA because of my device but they have added a new check device at TSA that does not intefere with ICD/Pacemakers.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate this. I’m some what apprehensive about the ICD but my cardiologist says I need it due to my HCM. Still looking for potential alternatives
