I have both dry eyes and dry mouth!
I have suffered from dryness on my whole body for at least 10 years, since age 70! I was tested positive for Sjogren's syndrome. I can tolerate dryness anywhere on my body except my MOUTH! Every night, my bone-dried mouth awaken me, then I have to sip water every few hours all through the night!. I don't have dry mouth during the day. My primary doctor didn't offer any advice! Taping my mouth to keep my mouth closed didn't work. The only mouth moisturizer that help is Biotene Dry Mouth Gel that I have been using every night. This moisturizing gel is quite expensive, also I don't know the bad effects for long term use! I'm hoping to hear from you, the kind MayoConnect people, how you cope with your dry mouth! Thanks so much!

@ew100 Welcome to connect where we try to help if we can . I have had both for a long time . I use to use Biotene but Dr recommended Act mouthwash . The flavor is better to me then the Biotene . I also drink sips of water during night . I use Refresh Optive preservative free eyedrops during the day . During the day I use the Act lozengers for dry mouth
Yes, I use Biotene mouth wash and Systane eye drops and I hydrate 6-8 glasses of water a day🐫
There are drugs that help too. Have you seen a rhemetologist? There is an autoimmune disease, called Sjogren's Syndrome, that can be related.
This is worth looking into especially if you have dry eyes and dry mouth
. Sjogrens Syndrome can effect your entire body, thats why you need to see a rhemetologist, if you have concerns...
Thank you for biotene for my dry mouth dry eyes use xiidra which do help Have used restates but xiidra helps me better
Dry mouth n dry eyes, using Xiidra for my eyes do work very well. Restssis helped but nit as good as xiidra. Dry mouth was better but aggravated by food
N fluid intake needs to increase. Using xiidra keeps my eyes from getting glued shut while I sleep
@ellen307 Is this a perscription?
Thank u. very helpful
I use generic dry mouth gel from CVS, Cyclosporine eye drops (Restasis), sips of water all night, and various OTC eye drops in between all night and day.
I have UCTD and a few AI problems. I'm 70 y.o. so "drying up" and invisible, I guess.
I also use ACT and always try to keep mouth liquid because your teeth need that and you need your teeth!
My best to you,
@yellowdoggirl
72 year old male. Went on blood pressure medicine (Calcium Blocker) 8 months ago. Doctor raised the dosage to 10mg as the blood pressure was still ranging in the 140-150 range and the blood pressure came down to 120-130s but I noticed feet swelling slightly and dry mouth and very dry skin particularly on my forearms followed. Switched to another blood pressure med but it did not help the blood pressure much. The Doc’s nurse switched my back to the original med, Within 14 days my forearms were white with skin flaking off (no rash, no itching). Developed very dry mouth at night with some dry mouth during the day. Also began to have eye problems. Dry and painful and increasingly so. Use Biotene lozenges at night for the dry mouth and water during the day. Dry eyes got to where it was painful to open them and very red. Ophthalmologist prescribed steroid drops, heat mask and retain drops, with a antibiotic cream for two weeks and otc dry eye cream at night in the eyes thereafter. Having problems getting the steroid drops approved and suffering with eye irritation in the meantime to the point it’s hard to do anything. Have contacted the cardiologist for a change in meds and will contact my PA to check and see if I’m the 1 in 10 men to get Sjogren's.
