Do Prolia injections affect the kidneys?

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I have had a kyphoplasty on each fracture. The first one helped; after that not so much. I have a severe scoliosis as well that adds to the fun. I was debating between Prolia and Evenity, but I decided on Prolia because of convenience and cost. My doctor sent me to try on back braces this morning, but I am going to carefully think about whether or not I would actually wear one since my share of the cost would be almost $500.

Agree the monthly shots are an inconvenience if you like to travel. The staff call and change the appointment sometimes because no one is available which throws everything off.
I’m considering all options at the end of 12 months in January.

Can you try one out to see if it helps before buying?

I tried two different braces on, and neither was comfortable, so I'm putting that decision on hold for the moment. I think I really need to strengthen muscles rather than try to hold them up with a brace. I had acupuncture today and my acupuncturist gave me the name of a woman who tailors exercises for each client called the Egoscue Method, which I think I'd like to try. I am willing to look at different modalities for answers in hopes of finding something that could help. The brace will always be waiting in the wings.

I needed to get a TENS unit for a relative with inadequate insurance and living on very restricted income. I had a TENS unit made by the leading manufacturer so called the head of marketing and asked what could be done. The company sent my relative the same $800 unit that my insurance provided my with after a back injury as it was, now, "last year's model." They even had a rep call him and walk him through how best to use it, etc. And sent extra battery packs as he was somewhat housebound.

It never hurts to try to get extra consideration and there may be back braces in a color that doesn't sell well or being discontinued for reasons other than effectiveness. The person on the other end of the phone call is just another human being who, all things being equal, would like to help another human being.

I have been on Prolea for 5 years and among all the other issues I have had a spontaneous hip fracture, 2 strokes, several autoimmune diseases, being told if I come off the Prolea, I’ll have terrible fractures, I too walk 1-2 miles a day, have taken Ca since my kids were born 50+ years ago, worked full time up until that hip fracture, etc…all the right things, now have kidney failure. I am ready to boycott all drug companies and their followers…meaning the ‘’sheep’’ docs and their platitudes!I unequivocally empathize with all the responses here…my favorite go-to place for critical, straight information because docs and drug companies lie through their teeth about nearly everything these days so no sane answers from them! I’ve about had it!

Here is what the drug insert says:
"Denosumab may cause low calcium levels, especially if you have kidney problems. Take calcium and vitamin D as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will order calcium blood tests before your first injection and during treatment."

Conclusion: With optimization of CKD-MBD, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and close monitoring, denosumab can be considered in CKD. There are however opportunities to better understand its fracture efficacy and safety in an RCT setting.

@shani you can actually get off Prolia by switching to Reclast, and you may not need to stay on Reclast long term. Many of us are reading Dr. Keith McCormick's book "Great Bones" and watching Dr. Ben Leder's video on sequencing and combinations.

The gist is you want to do blood tests- P1NP and CTX- to get the timing right for a switch to Reclast. Too early and it won't work and too late means fractures.

My kidneys are doing the exact same thing- same numbers- and I am not on Prolia!!
