EGD and colonoscopy for Barrett's esophagus

Posted by riflemanz64 @riflemanz64, Oct 3, 2023

I got an EGD and colonoscopy today. My Barrett's Esophagus is now gone. Low acid diet does work. I did however have gastric ulcer's which the Dr. told me back on the PPI's. I drank a gallon of prep juice along wit 2 ducolax pills and fasted for 2 days and my colon was not cleaned out! I need to get a modified prep next time(1year). So it's PPI's or ulcers, so I'm back on them. Im happy the BE is gone.

Very good news!!!! Nice to read positive stories here, thank you for sharing Rifleman!!!
I too was so pleased to post that I once again (2nd time around) beat cancer (last time was the esophagus and they removed it, this time the throat right next to the larynx).

Hey rifle, check with your GI Dr. There is a colonoscopy prep that involves taking four Dulcolax bisacodyl tablets and a LOT of gatorade mixed with miralax. I don't remember the exact proportions, so see if your GI Dr. has any ideas. All the best. And I know how you feel. I had a colonoscopy report come back inconclusive because of poor prep. I didn't think it was possible....... I had to do it all over

Hope this helps. good luck.

Glad you beat the cancer! That must of been really tough to go thru what you did! I had my H Pyloiri come back negative, still waiting on other biopsies he took to come back.

I’ll ask my Dr. If I can try those tablets. Sounds better that drinking a gallon of that prep.

Wow, that had to be hard. I had mine done on separate dates and the colonoscopy was the hardest to recover from. And I've had them done in the past, but they never affected me this way before. I was feeling sick for 3 days. I guess it is my age.

Actually it was very easy to do both at the same time. I think it’s the anesthesia that makes you feel sick. I felt really drugged for 24 hours.

I get my Colonoscopy and EGD on 4-16-24
I had both of these done last October but due to me not being cleaned out I now get it again. They also will check to see if my peptic ulcers are gone now that I'm back on a PPI. I get to drink a Gallon of Miralax on Sunday and a half gallon of Peg 3350 on Monday afternoon. That should work for the clean out. I drink 1/2 the gallon at 5pm, take 2 ducolax at 7pm, drink the other half gallon on Tuesday morning 4 hours before my procedure. I'm hoping the ulcers are gone. Anyone else dealing with ulcers?

Oh sorry you are going to have to go through all that prep again !! I just had both ( my 3 rd -4 th ) in 10 years. Last ones Mar 1 st .
They keep finding the same 7 issues .
I’ve tried everything, I mean everything.
I have Gastritis, Esophagitis, GERD , Small Hiatal Hernia, Diverticulosis, IBS- D , Small benign polyps on stomach lining . Shataki Ring on bottom of esophagus.
I just had a first terrible bout of Diverticulitis. So painful ! I’m still going through it but fever broke after 1 st day .
Keep us posted on your results ok ?

The preps for colonoscopy is certainly a labor of “ love” to complete. I get colonoscopy every 3 years. I also get endoscopies as I have a history of Cameron Ulcers from sliding hiatal hernia. It took about 6 weeks for my stomach ulcers to heal. I developed iron deficiency anemia from my bleeding Cameron ulcers.
Hope all goes well for your procedure!

@rozy288, I am so sorry to hear of your suffering. It is so frustrating when one does all the lifestyle changes and medical management versus surgery and yet we have flair ups. I too have diverticulosis but haven’t had a major issue ( yet) but I recall my grandmother and another family member having to undergo surgery for diverticulitis ( infection) . Thanks for your posting. Take care!
