What vitamins to avoid when taking Hydrea (hydroxyurea) for ET JAK2?

Posted by lindagualtieri @lindagualtieri, Feb 20 6:28am

I currently have essential thrombocythemia with the JAK2 gene mutation. I currently take 500 mg of hydra seven times a week. I’m supposed to take two doses three times a week which I’m not doing any longer because my platelet counts have fallen back to 418. What kind of vitamins should you avoid while taking hydra i.e. multivitamins vitamin D vitamin K etc. has anyone had any issues with taking vitamins with this chemo drug?

Ive taken 500 mg of Hydroxy Urea a day for 9 months now, as well as B3 , a calcium magnesium zinc combo. So far no issues. I keep wondering about B12 since I’ve been on Protonix for over 20 years for GERD. My MD says no need. I am 82 years old.

Have been taking Hydra for 10 months 500mg X 7 until this week and I am on 500 mg x 3 now. I take biotin, B12, Iron and super B complex this is what my Doctor said was ok she recommended all but the biotin. I take it to help with hair and nails and she said it is ok. Biotin is said to help with hair growth and I finally have more hair than I every had. But it is a slow process. I also have reflux and have been on medicine for a number of years.
