I'm living with chronic pain. Is it fibromyalgia?

Posted by gmonroe1986 @gmonroe1986, Mar 8, 2016

I am a patient of Dr Gupta and when i was being examined i tried to explain to her about what was going on in my life and the problems i was having. I use to live in mansfield ohio and i have been through doctor after doctor after doctor. I have been in counseling since i was a kid. I suffer from severe stress , anxiety and depression. I tried to explain to her that i have been tested on so many times. X-ray after X-ray and blood work so many times i cant remember them all. I have done research myself and found out that all the symptoms i am having match about 95% of the worst arthritis that is have read about. In all the things that i have read it all clearly stats that x-rays and blood work are not full proof way of diagnosing those conditions. To its the point that i have a hard time driving anywhere or just doing simple things at home. I tried to tell her all the test that i have done and what all the other doctors were saying that I've been a patient of. My pain is terrible. The lower part of my body hurts. My back, neck and shoulders always tingle. I believe that i have fibromyalgia. I have talked to doctors about it and there is no sure way to diagnose this disease except for just listening to the patient. I tried to communicate with her about all my problems and i felt like she was just rushing me so she could move on the next patient. I am not saying she is a bad doctor. I have read many reviews on her and everyone said that she is good doctor. I just felt that she wasn't listening to me. I suffer from more than just physical problems and i need help. I have done so many test, x-rays, physical therapy, counselling and paperwork. I dont want to come off as just whinging and trying to take the easy road. I need help and after reading this I hope someone will listen. I start a new job here soon and I know that i will not be able to do the duties that will be demanded. I am so frustrated with all the run around. I know what is wrong with i just the right doctor to listen to me. I need help because i can not work and i need to find a way to still help raise my daughter and not lose everything that i have worked hard for. Who ever reads if anyone does at all THANK YOU for just reading and trying to understand all the stress that i am going through.

Sincerly
George Monroe

Hi @gmonroe1986, and welcome to Connect. I’m sorry to hear about your pain, but would encourage you to continuing seeing your doctor. I know you are frustrated with not being able to clearly diagnose the pain, however it is important to keep searching for a solution. You're not alone.

While I am not a trained medical professional, I want you to be able to use Connect as a support platform. That said, I’d like to connect you with @edriaragosin who lives with fibromyalgia. On another thread she writes "My biggest problem is my arthritis. ... I think the biggest problem fibromyalgia presents is depression." You can read the full thread and post a question to the group here:

George, it is obvious that you are no stranger to medical appointments and managing your care. What tactics have worked for you in the past with doctors and feeling like you had been heard?

I bet @katemn or @mlemieux would have something to add about the journey of becoming an equal partner in your care.

Hello George, what issues and problems you have had .. I am sorry for that. If I was sitting in your shoes .. this is what I would do. I would check into :
http://www.fmcpaware.org/support-groups/browse-support-groups.html?sid=54:Support-Groups

I would tell you that if your gut feeling is that you have fibromyalgia .. not only will you find good information and support at this website .. as well as checking into the Mayo Clinic fibromyalgia website .. ONLY THOSE people can TRULY understand what you are going through!

I know this because when I was going through a divorce I had friends who had been divorced a year before .. 5 years before .. 10 years before .. they could empathize .. BUT when I couldn't sleep at 4 in the morning .. ONLY the people in my Divorce Support Group could truly understand what I was going through. THEY "got" it .. THEY were who I turned to in my time of need.

When you are thirsty in a desert .. you find an oasis .. the RIGHT support group will be your OASIS .. it is up to you to seek it out. "If it is to be .. it is up to YOU!" Find peace in your journey, Friend!

edria, I SO agree with you!

Mayo puts together a team of doctors if/when needed .. until they find what
is going on with a patient. I know with my husband .. he had suffered for
I think 7 years with UTI's with our local doctors. They just continued to
give him on 7 to 14 day antibiotics. NEVER getting to the bottom of a
cause!! It wasn't until he landed up at Mayo about something ELSE .. AND
walking out the door about to get into the car .. he went into SEPSIS!! A
life threatening infection that goes into the blood stream!!!!!

In the hospital at Mayo after a LOT of testing they found that he had an
infection in his prostate .. that the prostate has poor blood circulation
.. the 7-14 days antibiotics had NEVER cleared up the infection in the
prostate and he nearly died from the sepsis. They then did a surgery
called a TURP. I KNOW that Mayo Clinic saved my husband's life. For that
I will be eternally grateful. Complex issues can be figured out by Mayo ..
that is why people from all over the WORLD travel there .. out in the
middle of no where! In my opinion .. whatever the effort to travel there
.. GO!!

Blessings on all our journeys!
Thank you for giving me advice. I live in Bellefontaine Ohio and i am 60
mins from Columbus Ohio. I am trying everything i can. One of the doctors
that were helping me decided that she didn't want to help me so they
transferred me to a doctor in Dublin and that is 45 mins from me. They said
they wont be able to get my MRI done till June. I need help now with my
pain and with all my mental conditions. I am trying hard to find doctors
that will help but i keep giving me the run around and i dont want to get
labeled for doctor shopping.
