I am on Hydroxyurea but have not had any fevers - however, it is a common side effect. You should call your prescribing physician immediately for guidance. Hope you feel better soon!
I sometimes feel fever-ish/flu-like symptoms in the evening, but never actually have a fever. This happened before I started HU. If you are having a high fever with HU, please call yr doc's office right away or go to the ER. Please check in again when you know what caused it. Take care!
Since starting hydroxyurea approximately two years ago, I have experienced worse tinnitus. I have had tinnitus for a long time, but very mild. Has anyone else experienced bad tinnitus? I am wondering if it is the hydroxyurea that has caused this. Please respond if you’ve had this problem.

I always have ringing in my ears -- but it began when I went on low-dose aspirin, which was two months before I started taking HU.
Even on my high dose (10 capsule/week), the HU has not exacerbated the ringing, which for me is simply the sound of slightly-thinned blood flowing in my head.
Your situation may be entirely different! Hope you will get helpful comments from others.

Just started hydroxurea and I have a question. Is 500mg x4 with breakfast a high dose. I asked my hematologist if I could start on 1000mg. She said ok and then we could gradually raise it.

I have never experienced tinnitus until early this year after I had been on hydroxyurea at varying doses with several long breaks OKed by my hematologist. I developed pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear only. For a month it was intermittent and only at night when lying on my left side. Now it is a constant 24/7 whooshing in time with my pulse. I have not seen tinnitus on the HU side effects lists I've read. It was noted on side effects reported after the most recent type of COVID vaccination. I've found very few studies comparing the percent of persons taking HU who develop a particular side effect to the percentage of the general population who report the same side effect.

I’ve had tinnitus for years before starting the treatment. I would not say it worsened tinnitus. I can’t take hydroxy anymore due to severe side affect of high fever. Scared.

Something to remember is that HU -- for all its benefits -- does lower our immune response. This makes it easier for us to pick up a bug.
So please follow the excellent advice to call your doctor's office. And please take very good care of yourself!

I am sorry you're having this serious problem.

Yes, tinnitus is bad at times. But I'm 70 and use white noise machines. I have it on my list of Qs for the hemo in November.
I have been on hydroxy for 3 weeks and so far no side effects. I take 1000mg a day.
