Husband newly diagnosed

Posted by momshmallow @momshmallow, Jun 8 10:21pm

My husband is only 62 and was just diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. It sounds serious and I am very frightened. I want him to go to Boston which is only 35 minutes away where they appear to have a specialty group. How long can the wait be?

I believe you are both strong enough to do this. Think positive and remember you have each other. Also you can talk to me anytime. Just here to help if you need it ok. You got this!! Scott

Thank so much for checking in! The visit today was a little overwhelming. Three months for the first phase going every two weeks with evaluation before each treatment.
I am glad they are so precautious but I am hoping that things go well for him. They did mention the anti nausea meds and we will see how that goes.
They also said we would have a nutritionist and some counselors and to just call if we have any concerns.
Everyone is so kind.
Monday's the day. Last day in June....

Praying Monday goes well for your husband.

We found out today that my husband’s MRI showed 2cm tumor on his liver. pet scan scheduled for Tuesday. We are also waiting for appointment to biopsy the liver and put a port in. The past 3 weeks have been a lot. So many emotions as we continue waiting while more test are performed before a treatment plan can be discussed.

Thank you Scott! Your support means more than you know.
I am trying to remain positive.
They make new discoveries every day.
This is supposed to be the newest treatment.
I hope he can endure it for a positive outcome.
Time will tell.

I am almost in the same boat as you. My husband will be 62 next week. We have been together for 42 years. He also appears to have a spot on his liver and his lymph nodes may be involved.
We still have so many tests to get through.
But this group is amazing! Many survivors and so encouraging!
Sending you hugs and strength.

First treatment seemed to go very well. He was okay until tonight. Drove himself to the clinic to have the 46 hour pump removed and drove home.
Had some hydration while he was there as he still has difficulty with swallowing and it seems to perk him up.
But this evening around 9pm I was upstairs folding laundry and I heard a noise downstairs. My son and I ran down and found Rich on the kitchen floor.
He had taken the dogs outside then come back in to give them a treat. Said he felt weak and landed on the floor.
Spit up a little phlegm but managed to get himself up as he insisted he wanted to do it himself.
He made it to the couch, then had to go to the bathroom. He managed to climb upstairs and take care of himself then go back down to the couch.
He is resting now and says he just feels weak.
I called the on call doctor and we had a good discussion. She said to keep an eye on him for temperature change, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Ugh.

Be sure to monitor BP also. I had similar experiences while undergoing chemotherapy. I was blacking out because my blood pressure was dropping too low. Doc gave me some medicine to counteract that.
