Article about GERD and AFIB

This link mirrors exactly what experience I have had with Afib. An interesting read relating GERD to AF episode/s.

Thanks. The article isn't exactly 'recent', but close enough that it bears looking in. I would hope that, by now, someone is close to publishing something more concrete that we can use if we have GERD/reflux and intermittent or persistent AF.

Thank you! I have a hiatal hernia and gerd and this article will definitely be in my next consult with the new EP! I can't take prilosec as my entire stomach cramps up, but will research alternatives now. It seems in my case the gerd is almost like an allergy. Right now pollen is up and I reflux even water. When pollen is down it takes a heavy meal to get it going.

I also have a hiatal hernia which (infrequently, I'm grateful to say) causes pretty fierce GERD, and I have persistent Afib. Both conditions for severe years - and this is absolutely the first I've heard of possible interconnections. Thanks for the article!

There's no separating the heart from the GI system, a view developed from years of ICU nursing. A few months ago, following an indulgent restaurant meal, I had a rather extreme (for me) GI "attack". As the severe discomfort persisted for hours, i thought, "i'm going to go into A-fib." And so I did, in the usual fashion, with gradually increasing premature beats progressing to the erratic rhythm we all know. The GI event finally subsided after several hours and I decided to wait out the (asymptomatic) afib for awhile. After another several hours, i flipped back into regular rhythm. So lesson learned? Eat smaller meals, be more careful about alcohol assumption. Don't miss the morning dose of omeprazole or the evening dose of famotidine. I sure hope this doesnt happen again.

Thank you so much for this message. Navigating this situation is quite challenging for me. Much appreciated.
