HPV vaccination, good or bad for boys?

Posted by bentley33 @bentley33, Apr 10, 2019

Hello
I was hoping to get some advice/feedback on this issue. My son is 12, soon to be 13 in September and I’ve been looking into the HPV vaccination. I really wish it was available for me because I’ve had issues that seems could have been avoided. I’m a mom so I’m not sure about doing this for my son. I’m leaning toward vaccinating him, but also wondering what age to start??? Any and all comments are welcome, I’m in uncharted territory right now 😬

Hi @bentley33 it's great that you are reaching out and being proactive for your son's health. I wanted to share this quote from the CDC on the HPV vaccine for boys:

"Boys, like girls, should get the two doses of the HPV vaccine at age 11 or 12 to protect against cancer-causing HPV infections long before they are ever exposed. The HPV vaccine series can be started as early as age 9, and should be finished before boys turn 13 years old."

I hope this is helpful!

Hello.
Thank you for the information. I’ve been getting mixed opinions at the ages they should give them. Some say 12 and some say 13-15. He’s just so little, not sure how he grew up so fast! 😊 I do think it’s something I’ve decided he should get, the age thing is my only hold up. I want to keep him 8 forever, hahaha 👩‍👦❤️
