Your travel tips for Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and Scottsdale please

Posted by mercuryrose @mercuryrose, Oct 25, 2021

I am flying into Phoenix and need transportation Services that are dependable from the Airport, to Hotel and back And forth between Phoenix and Scottsdale Mayo Clinic’s. I am somewhat Handicapped, because I cannot walk or stand for a long period of time. I understand even the Shuttle between Mayo Clinic’s is Not running because of Covid.

Hi and Welcome to Phoenix. I'm pretty sure most Hotels can get you from the airport but not sure about the shuttle. I'll be up there Wednesday and I'll ask for you on transportation options.
One other thing to consider is there is a hotel on the property I personally haven't stayed at that hotel but it probably would be the best option. It's a Resident in by Marriott called Desert Ridge at Mayo.
Blessings

A friend has stayed there over the past nine months for a serious condition. It is a nice and convenient place to stay.

Oh good because when I last spoke to someone there, maybe over a month ago they told me because of Covid the Shuttle was not working. I have reservations at the Sonesta Hotel in Scottsdale that will Shuttle me to the Scottsdale Mayo Clinic. My appointments each day are back and forth between that two Campus’. This Hotel does not have service from Airport...

I'm here today and confirmed the shuttle is running so you should be all set. I know also Uber has become popular here and I used it once myself. You may want to check that resource as a way to get from the Airport.
Beautiful weather we are having so I'm sure your time here will hopefully be pleasant. Let me know if there is any other questions I can help with?

Traveling to Mayo Arizona (current Jacksonville patient)

I have a long history of Endometriosis and multiple surgeries. In 2014 I underwent a hysterectomy and removal of my left ovary due to a chocolate cyst. At the same time my vaginal cuff was rebuilt and endometriosis was removed from that area. The remaining lesions were cauterized. In 2015 I had a second surgery due to recto vaginal endometriosis and all areas were cauterized. Then in December 2020 I had a large right ovarian cyst (6.5 cm) removed and more areas of endometriosis were cauterized throughout the pelvis (including the bladder flap and left pelvic area). I have been working with women’s health in Jacksonville and Dr. Destephano. I have started pelvic PT, taking a Valium suppository nightly for pain and have a Botox injection procedure scheduled in early January. Since I am a school counselor, I am hoping the injections can get me through until June and then I can schedule the first week of summer break.
In the end, it looks like I am looking at another surgery (recent MRI showed multiple lesions, including on the vaginal cuff again). I have a video appointment scheduled with Dr. Wasson in Arizona, as I have done extensive research and she seems to be highly specialized with endometriosis excision. Does anyone have previous experience with either Dr. Wasson or Dr. Destephano and endometriosis excision? I am also looking at recovery time, etc. Dr. Destephano also mentioned Pelvic Peritonectomy. Any information/experiences would be greatly appreciated! I am looking to travel to Arizona for Dr. Wasson, as she is the most specialized. Also travel information/lodging information in Arizona would we greatly appreciated.

@nestletea, I hope to have connected you with other women who have experience with endometriosis in the other discussion you posted here:
- Endometriosis Excision https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/endometriosis-excision/

So I'll focus on the your questions about travel and accommodation at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. I moved your question to this existing discussion where you'll meet fellow Mayo AZ patients who can offer advice about travel and lodging.

Nestletea, what specific questions do you have about travel and lodging in Arizona?

Honestly I have never been to Arizona and am specifically trying to figure out which airport to fly into and also which lodging offers transportation to Mayo Arizona. This is all new to us, but I would prefer a top notch surgeon.

Since my doctor recently retired I got my Gastroenterology procedures transferred from Rochester to AZ . Since I've never been to Phoenix/Scottsdale, I'm looking for recommended lodging, resturants and things to do. Thanks in advance,
Dave
