How to Help Myself with Depression, Anxiety and Panic Attacks
I have had depression most my life. I have took medication for it but I do not stay on it long because of being scared of the side effects or the withdraws from coming off of it. I do not want to become addicted to medication. I have never been addicted to anything so not sure why I feel that way. I have my ups and downs like most people do with mental health I guess. Its hard to talk about it to doctors because I do not trust them either. So how do I get help for myself. I always feel alone even though I am not. I was blessed raising my granddaughter 3 years ago which has helped me stay focused off of me and on her but I constantly feel alone. I live with my ex husband because he helps me with my granddaughter both raising and supporting her. I never want to go anywhere. I have no friends. I have siblings but they have their own life. I do go out once in a great while just to get out and I do enjoy it when I am out but then I come home and right back not wanting to go anywhere. I feel guilty all the time about my life for one reason or another. I have panic attacks, anxiety, along with the depression. I have tried talking to doctors that just want to talk it out but I don't stay long with that because I feel guilty talking about me and my problems and my past. So can someone tell me what they do for this that works if anything? Thanks for letting me vent this.

3 Reactions@colely I have a very simple answer. Stop reading newspapers, stop watching the news, drop your Facebook account and pray. What is going on now is enough to give anyone panic attacks. I am 74 and I never ever thought this was something we would ever have to deal with.
Where is the greatest generation when we need them?

5 Reactions@daveshaw I agree. Don’t watch the news. It is so negative. Social media can be toxic. I wish I had an answer. I find it all depressing

2 ReactionsMeryW....I have taken Effexor/Venlafaxine for about 30 yrs, sometimes replacing with something else, but always go back to Effexor. My issue is anxiety and this med seems to work best for me. But presently I am slowly replacing the Effesor with Mirtazapine, as read it has no sexual side effects. Been about 2 weeks. I also take CBD/CBN oil which very much helps with sleep and so far has no side effects other than not giving a shit about the future. I do think CBD oil might be a great addition when attempting to lower or change medications. Good luck!

Thank you for your sweet message. My dad died at 85 and my mom and him were inseparable she is 82. My parents were both very firm in their faith and I do believe that got them through struggles in life.
I’m very sorry to hear that 🥲about your son. It’s a story I hear a lot. Unfortunately kids have their own free will. Must be very painful as a mom to go through that.
@ancl123 I am not sure prayers are going to help. At 74 I never thought I would have to deal with this.
Getting old is tough enough. I didn’t think I would have be worried about losing our Democracy.

1 Reaction@ancl123 I am not sure praying is enough to save democracy. Keep trying. It can’t hurt.
Good luck to you.
@david707 They all have sexual side effects. You are looking for something that doesn’t exist. It is the Achilles heal of all antidepressants.
Good luck.
