How susceptible we are to infections

Hi community,
A question constantly on my mind is how susceptible we are to infections with bronchiectasis condition? How dangerous would it be to get a cold or flu? Your insight and experience would be greatly appreciated.

For me it is about safety first. But everyone has to weigh the risks and rewards to their situation. I am 71 and have had Bronchiectasis for a couple of decades. Chronic Pseudomonas. Antibiotics are risky due to co morbidities. So all I have is prevention which includes natural remedies and avoiding contact. We pretty much just stay at home and especially during flu season! Pick up groceries in car ordered online. Everything else is mail ordered. No restaurants except to pick up take out. Vaccinated and masks in any encounter. Like busy beans I really count my blessings with a cozy home, great husband of 35 years, 2 very loved dogs. I would rather stick around for their sake than risk it. But that is just me. I am a bit of a recluse by nature anyway!

Totally agree. You sound like you have a master plan and it works for you! That’s great. I feel the same. Ours works for us and we want to stick around too. Merry Christmas

oh ur medical history sounds much like my mom. I'm not sure how she/we would be around her post covid, but she passed 16 yrs ago.

for me, as a retired nurse who has been feeling like crap for years (with never a dx, only so of desating), I had a window of feeling great so I had my knee replaced in August of 2020. because I was feeling so good I did not /have not taken the shot. I'm of the mind that I live each day I'm blessed with, and if something happens I'm a DNR. I'm only 67 but life is too short to live in fear of the unknown. so this past November a sleep oximetry showed hypoxia and an 02 ring I purchased online showed desating during the day. I provided the evidence and finally was treated with 02 24/7. now I really have energy and had no difficulty when I finally got covid 2 weeks later. I also use cpap at nite and a nebulizer if needed. so before starting 02 and having covid I had made plane reservations for Christmas to Wisconsin. I had the wheelchair assistance reserved so got a POC from preferred home care with 4 lithium batteries. what a joke. because no one instructed me on needing to keep batteries charged I left tucson with zero battery life. I just took a nice nap from Vegas to mke and tea didn't check the batteries. I will be more prepared tomorrow but now wondering if I'll get cancelled, bumped or delayed in Denver. like I sd life is a journey and we can choose to live the adventure with fear or embrace whatever happens.
