How long do the hot flashes last? Another 3 month Eligard shot today

Posted by greg52 @greg52, Nov 26, 2024

Hello all. I have completed my 5 1/2 weeks of EBRT for intermediate risk prostate cancer and had first injection of Eligard 3 months ago.

Gleason 7, Stage 2, PSA 8.9. 9 of 17 cores positive. Decipher 0.69.

I am scheduled to get my second 3-month injection of Eligard today.
I must say the hot flashes have been bothersome. I'm waking up every several times a night sweating and multiple annoying hot flashes throughout the day.
Just difficult to sign up for ANOTHER minimum of 3 months of these hot flashes. Haven't had a shot in 3 months and still having as many hot flashes when I first started.
As I wait for injection appointment which is only a couple hours away, I find myself searching for recurrence/mortality rates for those that forgo the second 3 month shot.

I understand there are others that are dealing with much worse than I am so don't mean to be insensitive.

I will continue to search for other posts on this topic but just curious what input/advice others might have.

Thanks to all.

I'm at one year with Orgovyx and still have them. I think results vary because the issue is not the medication but rather 0 Testosterone, so our results vary like women's during Menopause. I expect to have them until some time after completing ADT and my system does whatever recovering it can.

I had significant hot flashes for six years on Lupron. At first on Orgovyx I had a lot of hot flashes, Then I found out my Prilosec was causing side effects to be worse so I started taking orgovyx in the afternoon And my hot flashes have almost completely stopped.

That is after eight years on ADT so that may be a factor.

over 11 years, still ADT, still hot flashes and night sweat. I grin and bare them but never get used to them.

@jeffmarc At your mention some weeks ago and following my last oncology appointment in mid-November, I switched to taking Orgovyx at bedtime. I don't think there's been a change: about one every three hours, or two overnight and the others scattered among waking time. They're not severe, mostly embarrassing or annoying and make falling back asleep a little harder.

Were you taking Prilosec in the morning? That’s why I switched the Orgovyx to the evening. I just about have no Hot flashes at all now. I have been on ADT for eight years and that may be a factor and why they have stopped, But I know when I took Prilosec in the morning and took orgovyx In the morning, my hot flashes were still there. Prilosec is supposed to increase the amount of side effects if taken with orgovyx within six hours. That’s also true of any protein pump inhibitor, Of which Prilosec is one.

I use an Embrlabs.com Wave 2 Device to control, hot flashes, and pretty much stop them at night.

The device works quite well to control the daily hot flashes, It doesn’t completely stop them, but reduces the intensity. At night, I found that it completely stops my hot flashes and hot sweats. Normally there are $300 but with this code you can get them for $200 BFCM25.

If you do get one, post a message on this Forum and I can give you instructions for how to configure it the best way. I beta tested the product five years ago and I’ve used it ever since. I still work closely with the company to report any problems I find with the Software or hardware.
