How long did it take you to adjust to the anti-rejection medications?

I am taking cyclosporine, myfortic, and prednisone. I'm in my 6th month post transplant. I have never felt worse, even before transplant with an ailing kidney. I would be interested in knowing how long it took your body to adjust to these new medications?

Had prednisone the first 6 months after my liver transplant (and since for unrelated gout). Did not notice any side effects with that and I do not recall having the other two. The only side effects I had from my original 24 meds (down to 9) at transplant were for TAC. But it was worth it. Hope you feel better.

I had a bad reaction to one of my rejection meds so I talked to my transplant doctor to see if we could change something and they we very helpful

@jeffhuegel - would you mind saying what the medication was and what was your reaction to it? What did they change? Only if you don't mind saying.

Mine was tachlomis(not sure of spelling) and it messed with my mind and I had bad delusions and felt like I was losing my mind. I am currently on cyclosporine, mycophelate (cellcept) and 5mg prednisone. I am 1 year and 4 months post liver/kidney transplant

@jeffhuegel I too had side effects from tacrolimus ( only way I spelled it right was reading it off the bottle). Bad headaches at higher doses and GI issues to this day. Mayo offered to switch me to "something else" but had said TAC was the best originally so I stuck with it. And overall I am doing well. You may want to talk to your care team to try to nail down what the cause is and if you find it switch to "something else" ? Best of luck.

@jeffhuegel Jeff, now that you are 1 year and 4 months post, do you still have weakness and a shaky feeling, or flushing? Maybe you had none of those symptoms? 🙂

@craigcraig Thanks, Craig, they are working with me.
Are the GI issues from your myfortic or can you tell?" Appreciate the information.

@benedict66066 Both Mayo and local docs say the GI issues are a combo of me no longer having a gallbladder (removed during the liver transplant) and the TAC. Not fun but sure beats liver cancer. (--: . Glad you are getting good advice. Hang in there !
