How long from surgery to start of BCG treatments?

Posted by Retep51 @peter51f, Mar 9, 2025

I had the 2 cystos and both came up with cancer in the bladder. Doctor said next step for me was BCG treatment. 6 treatments over 6 weeks.
The doctor told me that the BCG drug takes time to get so I will have to wait a bit. When the drug comes into his office they will call me to set up the appointments.
It is now 3 weeks. I called the office and they said it has not come yet and when it does they will call me.
Has anyone else had to wait that long or longer? How long did you wait.

Get some protection as you can get urge incontinance in the following hours after evacuating the medication. PRO TIP. I've just completed the entire BCG maintenance program. 33-36 goes or something. Don't keep it in past 2 hours. It can scorch your bladder a bit.

I waited 3 to 4 weeks. The place i go has bulk resources of the med in house and measure it out manually vs individual prepacked doses. The place is crazy busy.

Hi, my name is Irene & my husband went today for the
Pathology report.
The urologist told us that he has bladder cancer, high
grade, non invasive.
Will be scheduled for another scraping in 4- 6 wks.
Then BHG treatments for 6 wks. Smilow Cancer Center
in Yale New HavenHospital.
Also said he would be top priority because of being high
grade cancer. Hoping for the best for everyone😊

@ijw1950 How is he doing now? Sounds like you had / have a dedicated team - thankfully.
I have had to wait 6 weeks after high grade NI for a TURBT, now scheduled for 2/2. As we all know the waiting is cruel.

My husband will finish his BCG Wednesday for preventive maintenance. Then he goes back to the VA to
have to go into his bladder & see if there are any cancer
cells.
The BCG treatment has many side effects that he deals with every week, but are manageable😀
