How has your sinus infection been treated? Specifically.

I’ve dealt with them intermittently for years. I’m lucky that most of mine in years past have improved with Augmentin or Amoxicillin. I was just treated recently and Augmentin helped. (I have ENT follow-up today.)
The past 3 years were more complicated. Things that helped were NeilMed rinses. Penn Medicine ENT has an online video on how to do them (say kay-head straight). Azelastine spray helped immensely. I’m on more sprays and medicated rinses now, but these are great to start.

Hi healthybon, I also have sinus issues, specifically postnasal drip that develops into sinus infections every three months or so if I don’t do something. So I use a Neti pot every day with a mixture of sea salt and baking soda (1:0.5) to clean out the sinuses, and then alternate between fluticasone and Claritin (6 mos). When I have had sinus infections, my pulmonologist has prescribed 10 days of Levaquin and it clears it right up. I hope that helps, Roisin.

Bizarrely and knock on wood...since I started using sodium chloride 3% my sinuses have drained easily and I haven't had any more sinus infections or even sinus headaches for any length of time. For some reason the saline cleans out my lungs and my nasal/sinus areas at the same time. I have a constant runny nose but no more sinus congestion. Before that I took Augmentin every 6 months or so for the infections

I had sinus infections for years, way before I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis, which were treated with periodic antibiotics and nasal rinses. They got so bad that the water from the rinses just "bounced off" all the gunk and never really cleared it. I finally had sinus surgery to put more drainage holes in (I'm sure there's a medical word for it but I have no idea what it is), which the doctor kept open with stints while they were healing. I still do sinus rinses twice a day but I haven't had an infection since then.

Daily Pulmicirt rinse in Neil Med bottle have helped alot. Antibiotics if infection does set in. Its an ongoing cycle, but much less with this rinse.

One thing I wonder is if using a mask instead of the mouthpiece (when nebulizing saline) would help sinus issues? Anyone know?

Irene - It helps my grandson, who has classic sinus/adenoid issues that plague our extended family. Maybe I'll try it the next time I have a cold.

PARI makes a Sinus Pulsating Aerosol System, which looks like it uses the Sprint nebulizer and an adapter for the nose. I think people with CF world use it. Might be similar to using a mask?

Interesting thanks. Wonder why CF would use it? They do not mention using it with saline.
