How are you dealing with dry eyes?

Posted by joybringer1 @joybringer1, Dec 6, 2025

Recently, my eye doctor asked how often I use my Thera Tears and when I replied many times a day, he told me I have dry eyes and should not be using these eye drops more than 3 times a day. He gave me a sample pack of Xiidra which has single-use containers and has no preservatives. I quit using them because it felt like I had been injecting sand in my eyes. The prescription for these single-use containers is $300 for 90 days. I asked my pharmacy to hold that RX because I was not sure if I would ever use these again. What do you do for dry eyes?

I have Osis eye pads that I put in the microwave. They stay warm about 10 min. Doctor said do 2x a day. It really works. Wash cloth doesn't stay warm long enough. Feels good too.

@mikaylar Thank you (I think Oasis, not Osis)
I just ordered them from Amazon. Looks so much easier than redoing warm washcloth.

Thanks for all the information. I cannot adjust to the multifocal lens that was placed on 8/12 and 9/5. The sensitivity to light is terrible. I can't drive when it is sunny and can't go out in the sun. The bright lights in my home that can;t be dimmed do not get turned on (bathroom lights etc) I see halos on all lights even the smallest light that may be on an electrical cord. I pray the monofocal lens gets rid of all these issues so I can have my eyes back. My family and friends say I don't look like myself because I squint all the time. It is true, I cannot open my eyes completely to any light and it doesn't take long to get a terrible headache. I was never told of the different type lenses, (toric for a stigmatism). I did get a second opinion and did a lot of research and feel I was not a good candidate for the multifocal lens since I have the stigmatism and the severe dry eye. I will update after the lens exchange and hope it is good news.

My eyes are worse since having the cataracts removed. I also struggle with my distant vision which should have improved not worsened. I am thinking of having a piggy back lense put in to improve my distant vision. I am in constant pain.

Yes Oasis. You will like them. They are calming and sometimes I fall asleep with them on.

How long do you keep warm washcloth on your eyes?

@abob
An eye mask is much better than a warm washcloth. You can buy a Bausch & Lomb plastic one in any drugstore or order online. Warmies also makes a great eye mask. Either of these is microwaveable and should stay warm for the 15 minutes which is suggested.

@nursefran68 thank you so much, Yes, the washcloth is horrid, I will check out the 2 you mentioned. Someone suggested Oasis pads and Occusoft warming mask.
