Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old

Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

What are your issues ? Iam only taking it because i am trying to stop bleeding after a steroid shot .. i would not like to take it at all but my gynecologist said she would like to see the uterus lining to be at 4 centimeters and mine was at 6 ,what ever that means ? She wants me to take the pearl estrogen for two weeks straight then down to to 1 pellet twice a week . It still burns and itches so it would nice not to take it at all .. thanks for your reply any info does help . 😊

I took it for symptoms of interstitial cystitis which was essentially burning, itching, and frequent urination like a UTI but I didn’t have a UTI. I was miserable for months until I started the estradiol cream and then it went away.

Do you mind telling me the amount you are using and how often you use it ? I am finding that the estrogen cream has its own side effects.?I think if I didn’t use it as often as my gynecologist suggested it wouldn’t bother me as much .

Sure will - I'll keep you posted. I'm just praying I'm on the right road and will be feeling better soon. After the fiasco with my primary care doctor, who absolutely refused to consider HRT because he was concerned about heart attacks or breast cancer, I remember thinking that either one of those two conditions would be better than the way I'm living now!

Hi, I came across your story while researching HRT, I am 65 and have never taken HRT.
I have osteoporosis, started meds back in 2018. Had 6 pelvic fractures in 2022, rebound fractures from taking Prolia.
Since then I’ve taken 5 different osteoporosis meds. Had side effects to them all. Told I need to try yet another med, I’m tired of it.
Decided to try HRT. Found a GYN that specializes in hormones, I’m set to start.
I am very nervous, but hopeful.
Your story and the story of others on this site have made me feel more positive.
Can you share how things have been going since you first posted? Did you have any side effects?
Thanks so much.

Thank you. This is encouraging. I, too, have had no results from the Osteo meds. I am interested in pursuing HRT to help me.

At the recommendation of my urologist, I used a large pearl-sized dollop every other day until the symptoms started to subside. Then, I continued for a few weeks at twice a week. I was amazed at the success as I had been suffering for several months. Now, I use it only as needed if I feel symptoms starting to come on, and that’s usually only for a week. It was a miracle for me as I haven't had symptoms in almost a year.
