Honey and garlic-what are your thoughts?
Fellow transplant patients-Do you have a particular brand of honey that is known to be pasteurized? So many labels and websites are misleading - or is this simply an avoid at all costs. How about garlic? Is uncooked or undercooked garlic acceptable? I see that raw garlic stored in olive oil is a no. As I continue my new culinary skills post transplant, just trying to be sure and cautious...

I too am looking for this information.
What's wrong with raw garlic in olive oil? I have never seen that anywhere before
I had a liver transplant 3 years ago and have never heard that I can’t eat honey or garlic. I eat a fair amount of both. I plan to ask my team but my gut tells me both are ok.
I am not totally sure. I have just bought store bought honey which i thought yo be pasteurized. I do not by rsw honey or honey from people who have their own bees and harvest it. If unsure, I shoot my nurse coordinator a note a she'll reach out to infectious diseases, nutrition or pharmacy depending on question. I send slot on supplements and vitamins etc that transplant pharmacy will advise.
“Is it safe to put raw garlic in olive oil?
It is safe to submerge peeled garlic cloves in oil and store them in the freezer for several months. However, do not store garlic in oil at room temperature. Garlic-in-oil mixtures stored at room temperature provide perfect conditions for producing botulism.”
I think it is ok for a couple weeks…
Thanks! I was questioning the post that said "I see that raw garlic stored in olive oil is a no".
Hi All - I'm a few days late, however I located this article about Transplant Food Safety:

And while we are discussing food safety for transplant recipients, here is an article as inspired by the members in one of the Transplant Support Group Discussions!

I've used garlic as a "natural remedy" for various ailments for decades (usually eaten raw or nowadays just microwave for a few seconds to mellow it out) and it still works for me, but this is the first I've heard about not using it at all. It's not a daily thing though. I'll check into this!
As for the honey, we buy ours locally from local bee keepers as there are many benefits such as allergy relief from local pollens.
@mamay, There is information about honey in the link that I shared in my previous response. I think you can go head and enjoy your local honey!
-And, I have never seen or read anything about raw garlicbeing a risk. I believe that garlic is in the onion family, and we do eat raw onions. The concern with eating raw veggies or fruits is if they are not washed or peeled to remove any contaminants.

Mamay, My son gave me some beautiful fresh country eggs yesterday, They are absolutely beautiful pastel colors! Reminded me of Easter eggs. Anyway, I think that your local honey on a biscuit or toast would be a wonderful compliment to the egg that I'm going to enjoy for breakfsat in the morning. How do you use your honey?
Im trying to get rid of sweet and low and use honey instead, lol, Its great on toast, too! I've got chickens and love the dark orange yolks - now wonder if over easy is going to be problematic if ??
I definitely need to slow down the worrying and start enjoying again - thanks for sharing!
