HoLEP and Morcellation
I plan to have HoLEP done in a couple of months. I was sent a description of the procedure and it included the mention of morcellation. Is this standard practice? There is some concern about the use of morcellation which could spread cancer cells in the area to the blood system and the rest of the body. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? If you have had the HoLEP procedure done, was morcellation used?

My prostate was 201, HoLEP removed three quarters of it. I spent one night in hospital because I live alone. I had no pain at all. I had the procedure Jan. 21, 2025. Had a few days of incontinence but only at night. Get a good doctor. LOL I get up one to two times a night. I'm doing the Kegels each time I urinate. I had my procedure done at the Phoenix Mayo. Well worth it.
Hi, who did your HoLEP?
Hi, Whar Dr. did your HoLEP?
Dr. Scott M. Cheney But I think he has someone he is training who may have done the actual procedure. His name is Dr. Balentine. Regardless, all went well. It has been 8 months and I am very satisfied with the results.
Hi, I had HoLep done at Phoenix Mayo in May, 2025. They did the morcellation. Dr. Cheney supervised with Dr. Cava doing the procedure. Had incontinence for awhile, but is 95% resolved now 3.5 months later. No pain, no issues with peeing. Have the procedure, it is worth it to get your life back.
Must do your keegles, and I used a pelvic floor physical therapist as well. She was in dispensable. Good luck!
