Treating Osteoporosis: What works for you?
Hi. I'm new to the site and am interested in treating osteoperosis. I'm 39 yo and recently had a bone density that showed I'm at -2.4. So, going through the intial "I can't believe it" stuff. 🙂

Thank you for your response, Grammy. More to investigate, thanks to you!
@predictable I agree, I checked the website also and it did not seem to be what I expected.

Hi Cynthia, I had a spinal disk fusion in my lower back due to degenerative arthritis in the disk. My surgery was a total success, the surgeons attached a "cage" to my spine with rods and screws to help support the fusion. I no longer have back pain, but I did suffer spontaneous fractures due to osteoporosis in my pelvic area this last July. I was told by my orthopedic surgeon that there was nothing to be done for them, that they would have to heal on their own. I did however, have a steroid injection in my saccarilyic joint to help relieve some of the pain. That was a Godsend as I was having to walk with a walker. And I'm a young 61 year old!!! I hope that you find relief for your pain, finding the right doctor and team is essential. Good luck and prayers for you!
Thank you, Justin, for your effort!
Thank you for the extra information @cynthia1. I am glad to hear that you do have an appointment, even though April can seem like a long time to wait. I have tagged other members who have had a spinal fusion, hopefully they can add some incite in to the question that you are seeking an answer to.
I haven't yet talked to my MD about it; I head about it from a neighbor who just had a success w/the procedure this wk though her spinal problem is different from mine. When I called the dr's office, I was told he does see patients w/osteoporosis, but my appt isn't until Apr. I just wondered if anyone knew anything about the possibilities w/my challenge.
Hello @cynthia1.
I would like to bring @suee, @amy75, and @grammyx4 in to the conversation as they have spoke about spinal fusions in the past and may be able to offer more information on if a spinal fusion procedure would work for a compression fracture.
@cynthia, when you first mentioned this procedure you were unsure of the name of the technique. Did you learn the name of this procedure from your physician? Is this a surgery that has been recommended to you?
The compression fractures are due to osteoporosis.
Is there a spinal fusion procedure that would work w/ compression fractures of thoracic spine?
