Hi Cynthia, I had a spinal disk fusion in my lower back due to degenerative arthritis in the disk. My surgery was a total success, the surgeons attached a "cage" to my spine with rods and screws to help support the fusion. I no longer have back pain, but I did suffer spontaneous fractures due to osteoporosis in my pelvic area this last July. I was told by my orthopedic surgeon that there was nothing to be done for them, that they would have to heal on their own. I did however, have a steroid injection in my saccarilyic joint to help relieve some of the pain. That was a Godsend as I was having to walk with a walker. And I'm a young 61 year old!!!
