Has anyone tried the HF10 Spinal Cord Stimulation Device?

Posted by patrick17 @patrick17, Nov 21, 2018

Has anyone tried a device called HF10 ? It’s a device which stimulates your spinal cord to help relieve back and leg pain. After a trial period of about a week, if the patient is achieving good results the device is implanted in the person. My pain management doctor has recommended it to me for arm and hand nerve pain. I would like to hear from anyone who has used this device and especially from anyone who has used it for arm and hand pain. Thank you.

Hi Lindes, I'm happy to hear you got relief from the
DRG. Can you share with us was part of your body was causing the problem?

Yes, the left side sciatic nerve from the butt down into the foot

I went through the 7 day trial. They want you to get at least 50% relief. I was lucky to get 10%. Didn't work for me.

I have the unit from Medtronics. I think a lot of the success depends of the way it is installed. when they had the leads in place, they woke me up from the anesthesia, and checked with me that it was in the desired location to eliminate my pain. They put me back to sleep and finished the surgery. I had about 4 weeks of pretty strict movement restrictions to make sure the leads were healed into place.

@lindes Wow! I have never heard of being woken from anesthesia to make sure the leads were in the correct place! I wish you years of continued relief from your stimulator. You are definitely one of the lucky ones! LoriRenee1

Thank you a lot! My doctor is a rather young man who seems to be very ope to new ideas.
hat waking me up may have been the trick to get long term success!

I went through the 7-day trial with the HF10 Spinal Cord Stimulator mid-October. I have had back issues since 1976, and spinal fusion (L2-S1) in 2009, and 2 compression fractures following the fusion. I have dealt with chronic nerve pain (neuropathy and radiculopathy) ever since. The CF10 trial was a complete success for me, and am still waiting for the permanent implant. This device is MRI compatible. Just frustrated with the unrealistic time lag between trial and permanent implant. Surgeon's schedule is booked into end of Feb, possibly March 2020.

I realize this is an old post but I am hoping to get more info on the % of pain relief initially and now. I am set to do the trial on December 27, 2021.

Welcome @equinetexas, While we wait for members to share their experience using the HF10 Spinal Cord Stimulator, I thought the following article may be helpful.

@lindes, @mm1, and @lorirenee1 may have discussed the HF10 device and may have some thoughts or experience to share with you. Also, here a few posts from earlier in this discussion where users reported their experience with the HF10.

I have at least 95 to 99% pain relief! I would not want to live without my stimulator!

Hello!
I am an almost 53 year old woman who has been in chronic pain from nerve damage and scar tissue from 4 surgeries in a 2 year span, 3 of them abdominal. In 2014 was my first surgery. The most intense surgery of all. However, after my 3rd is when I couldn't bear the pain AT ALL!! Seen many Dr's, Gastrointestinaists, surgeons and finally a pain Dr that during our first consult in 2016, immediately noticed that I was pulling at my shirt so it didn't touch my skin. I really never paid attention to that mannerism. He suggested a Boston Scientific Spinal Stimulater and would lead the wire leads to my abdomen. It sounded to good to be true. No pain meds (with no relief from them), just an external 2 week trial and a seminar with other patients who did it, and some interested. I brought my Husband and Daughter to the seminar and decided to do the trial. Well, I went for it after the trial. Had the battery and wire leads on my spine and wrapped around to my abdomen. I loved it the first year. Then it got to be a little problematic keeping everything charged. Mine is an older version that is not MRI compatible, but they have been calling me to change the battery which is now smaller an MRI compatible and to realign the abdominal leads.
I don't know if I was just super desperate for pain relief and had the implant, or it did really work. I am now going to go through with the revised product and really stick to using it. My remote is old, it needs a revision for sure. Shame on me for not continuously keeping the remote and internal battery charged because it seemed to work. I just became a new grandmother a year later and just didn't comply the correct way. I know the Company is different than yours, but I've done my share of research and most of them are similar in their abilities. But with that being said, my pain didn't get worse or better by not using it. Other stomach complications are in the picture for me now, nothing related to the initial problem. So, I still wonder that I wasn't complying for about 4 -5 years, did I really need it in the first place? Because it's called a Spinal stimulater, most would think it's ONLY for the spine, but it's for all areas of our bodies where stimulation is needed. I have scoliosis, but no problems with that. I'm not sure I would do it again if I went back in time. However, it's in my body, most surgeons will not ever remove it unless of an infection or something serious. So that's why I'm contemplating just doing the revision. Sorry, probably wasn't much help, but it is (usually) permanent regardless what they tell you. Good luck to you and I REALLY hope you find relief.

I had the Boston Scientific implanted last rear, After 2 months it did not give me enough pain relief in my toes, so I had it removed 2 months after implantation. No problems with removing it.
