Help with low albumin numbers

Posted by asingh90 @asingh90, Jun 28, 2023

Hello everyone, my Mom has advanced pancreatic cancer and is currently on an immunotherapy/vaccine clinical trial. Her latest blood results last week showed very low albumin (2.2). The albumin was steady until about the last month and a half or so, and then it began to fall from the steady 3.3 ish number she had to now at 2.2. The doctor thinks this is nutrition related, as she has been having very little protein for the past several months due to issues with her appetite. She is now consciously trying to increase her protein intake. Has anyone else here had issues with low albumin? If so, what helped fix it? Was it just better nutrition?

my husband has same issue. he's not eating much.... has vomiting episodes. The dr suggested protein powder. You can buy it at the store and put it in her drinks. All the Ensure and Boost drinks have calories and protein. Bone broth has protein. Buy broth with no sodium.

Thank you so much for your input! We're going to try the protein powder as well as Ensure. She also has been having paracentesis done every few weeks, so we feel that may also contribute to the low albumin. Does anyone else have experience with low albumin numbers?
