Help..What Causes Pain Behind Your Thighs???

Posted by cahnny @cahnny, Sep 5, 2016

I’m 70 and have a lot of degenerative spine and joint issues but now a new pain has cropped up. When I sit the backs of my thighs really become VERY sore/painful. It gets much better as soon as I stand up but I can’t stand for long so spend a lot of time in a wheelchair or other chairs. Anyone know what could cause that kind of pain?

HI – has your doctor checked you out for Bursitis in your hips? I have it
in both hips from complications related to a bad fall and a broken pelvis.
The pain from my hips is often referred to my legs/thighs. Extreme
tenderness is common. I’ve had two steroid shots in each hip. The first one
helped a lot but the second one didn’t and my doctor says I can’t have
another until next year. I’m not sure I will have another since the last
one didn’t help. This is just a possible suggestion. My doctor pressed on
the side of my hips and my knees buckled just from the pain from the
pressure. I had no idea my hips were causing part of my leg pain. If you
press on the side of your hips and it hurts, you could have Bursitis.
Ultasound done prior to my injections confirmed it. hope you feel better
soon.

Just tried the tennis ball to see how it would feel. Sorreeeeeeeee…it’s not for me. There must be nerves in your butt because I got pinched nerve pain from my shoulder to my elbow. Get that a lot but the tennis ball pressed the wrong stuff…lol. Thanks anyway.

I just went through an Angiolplasty procedure because, though I have competed for the last 6 years in 5k’s – in the 70+ groups, I could no longer do it because the artery in my left leg was clogged right behind my replaced knee. I had the procedure last Friday (5 days ago) and am thrilled with the results!
Maybe you have a clogged artery or vein in your thigh. Have you checked for that? My Primary Care physician recommended that I I see a vascular surgeon who performed the procedure.
Good Luck!

So sorry. It is an inexpensive think to try.

Good Luck! I hope it is something easy to fix.

Bursitis discovered when I was taking PT for after effects of hip replacement surgery. Hard time walking on cement like Costco, sidewalks etc. Have not been able to work out in pool since November 2017 so it is worse. Have developed RLs and Peripheral Neuropathy in meantime. Have three degenitive discs in back for which I have recently received an epidural but will need another as it did not completely relieve pain. Am an active 82 year old female.

Hi
I am 63 and have spinal issues from the cervical to lumbar spine.

I get the pain, too. For me, it comes from my lumbar spine. It have spinal stenosis with major issues in L5/6. In the last couple of months I have fallen twice. Thank goodness nothing broke.

I've been taking steroid shots for several years but my last 3 shots have not worked. I just had disc replacement surgery on my cervical spine and I was doing well until I fell and inflamed my neck. That is coming along. I had a consult with my neuro-surgeon and we have decided to do surgery on L5/6. First, he wants me to have PT. I will start that next week. In the meantime, my physical therapist felt I need to use a cane for balance to help prevent falls. She did wonders with my cervical spine, I am hoping she will help strengthen my core. After 6 weeks of PT, the neuro-surgeon and I will decide which lumbar spine surgery I will have.

Hope you have a pain free day….

Good Luck! Surgery is something I wish to avoid at all costs and if I get back in the pool next week, had planned on this week but had a ton of appointments, I know the walking in the pool will help as it has for 15 years. Or I'll have to admit I am just getting old at 82.
