Heart Palpitations/Dizziness after Eating/Exercising?

Posted by step12345 @step12345, Nov 2, 2023

I am a 22 year old male, 140lbs 5’9, Asian. I am residing in the USA, no drug use/smoking. Has anyone had heart palpitations and dizziness after eating food or exercising?

The cardiologist had me do a treadmill stress test, and I got progressively more dizzy and had very brief chest pain afterwards. But the test itself was fine. He is unsure what is going on.

My blood pressure tends to be higher than normal for men my age, around 130-140, and can get up to 160 when lying down.

I visited an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, and sleep study . Everything was fine according to these doctors, no sleep apnea/narcolpesy, no thyroid issues, etc.

What other specialists/avenues should I explore? I have been suggested of Sutter's integrative medicine by a friend

Has any doc suggested you wear a patch monitor for a couple of weeks?

I have infrequent paroxysmal atrial fibrillation that has a variety of triggers, but eating and lifting can both do it.

When you had your stress test did they do the pulmonary stress test? This measures your oxygen usage and how well your cardiovascular system is able to handle exercise as well as monitoring your heart electrical response to exercise.

Have you had a complete blood analysis especially electrolytes? Have they mentioned wearing a holter monitor?

You are very young how is your stress level?

My advice is to find a qualified physician who will order a Holter Monitor to be worn for about a full week, and it might even be helpful to have a MIBI stress test. Again, find someone who will take a professional interest in the puzzling symptoms you have.

I have worn a patch monitor for 2 weeks. I logged the date/time of the energy crashes every single day, but the doc says the results look fairly normal.

Thank you for the paroxysmal atrial fibrillation suggestion though.

I am unsure whether pulmonary stress test was done. However, they continously measured heart electrical response to exercise + blood pressure.

Is the electrolytes its own special blood panel?
My sodium, potassium, chloride, and calcium levels are all within normal.

My stress level seems to be okay. My cortisol is about 11 ug/dL. Normal range is 6 to 19 ug/dL.

Look into GI issues!

Which GI issues in particular could affect the cardiovascular system?

You would have known if pulmonary test was done. You would have had a mask over your face the entire stress test to monitor the amount of oxygen you were using and how much stress your cardiovascular pulmonary system was under. It monitors your breathing O2 and CO2. Also, there would have been a pre-test with you blowing into a test instrument to measure the amount of air you can inhale and exhale.

The electrolytes are the first thing they check on me when I have PVCs and issues with ICD/Pacemaker as a common cause. It looks at potassium, magnesium, and other electrolytes which can affect the heart rhythm and functions. I think electrolytes are included in complete blood test but you may not have gotten it and need to ask if they did one.
