Your heart rate is not normally considered 'low' in the range you cite, but it 'could be' .....for you. Have you been recording your blood pressure regularly? What is it like? If it is low, it might be that your heart is keeping a regular rhythm (which it seems it is without further investigation by a cardiologist) but it isn't beating strongly enough, or it isn't structurally sound and doesn't pump the volume you need to feel well.

This could mean thickened ventricle walls, it could mean a valve disorder (the mitral valve may need attention to improve what is called your 'ejection fraction'. If you don't know what all this means, please consult a cardiologist or begin to do an internet search on those terms: 'mitral valve prolapse', 'ventricular hypertrophy and its causes', and so on in case it's something you need to know about and to ask about. I don't mean to suggest that you DO have any of these problems, but you'll never know unless you ask....a cardiologist....please.

Low heart rate, bradycardia, may be able to be controlled with medicine. Sometimes it can even be caused by medicine (ex. too high of a dose of metoprolol). Pacemakers can be safe and do save lives. My uncle had a pacemaker put in when he was 74. He is now 92.. Perhaps the person you knew had other heart/health issues that they were not aware of that caused the death...and it was not due to the pacemaker. You should see a cardiologist to determine the cause of the low heart rate and the best medical treatment.

Don't go by a single person dying with a pacemaker installed. The technology has improved greatly and anyone getting a pacemaker is already in very poor health and more likely to die if they do not get the pacemaker.

Be sure to get 30 minutes of exercise each day and work on improving your heart function. Being sedentary is a key factor in declining health.
