Head pressure is ruining my life

Posted by amandanap1 @amandanap1, Dec 1, 2023

Hello, im hoping that maybe someone can shed some light on this or offer advice if you have experienced the same thing as me.

For almost a year I have been dealing with unrelenting, severe head pressure. Not headaches, though I do get those sometimes. The head pressure is 24/7 and it lasts for months at a time, I get a week off, then it comes back even worse than before.

My symptoms:
head pressure
lightheadedness
vision disturbances (blurry vision, darkness around the edge of vision)
migraines
It feels as if my head is being squeezed and going to explode. It is extremely difficult to do daily activities, I cant concentrate, its taking my life from me. I have had an MRI, numerous CT scans and a lumbar puncture, all clear. If anyone has gone through something similiar and have found something that helps, I would love to hear it.

Not to scare you, but just to share my own head pressure/ache story. I had this issue for months last year. It affected every day and made many activities difficult. Nothing I tried worked, unfortunately (massage, physio, accupuncture) but eventually one day I couldn't be woken up by my family and they took me to Emergency. I got scanned and it turned out I had a brain tumour and they did emergency surgery to remove it, and then I fell into the world of brain cancer. To note: the brain surgery / tumour removal stopped the head pressure, because the tumour had literally been putting pressure on the rest of my brain.

I sincerely hope this is not the case for you. But it is worth a scan.

Hello @holdinghope, welcome to Connect. Thank goodness you were able to have emergency surgery and remove the tumor. I can't imagine what a blessing that was for you to relieve the pressure. It's great of you to share your experience in hopes of helping others troubleshoot.

How have you been navigating so far? Are you finding helpful conversations surrounding brain cancers?

Thank you for the welcome! It was such a relief to relieve that pressure. Of course, I exchanged that problem for another one... navigating a million appointments and cancer treatments and the knowledge that it's not "curable", although I'm not taking that to heart because there's always a first time.

I've been enjoying reading others' stories. It always helps to not feel alone in a thing.

I have that, but also a diagnosis of intracranial hypertension.

If it's from prediabetes, that is 'hopeful' news because one can do a lot -- and fairly quickly -- to bring the diabetic symptoms under control by Healthier food and Adequate levels of a Variety of physical activity. I say this as an octogenarian who does not have any health issues except those related to some impairment, and cataract, but able to live alone independently, often carrying 20 lbs of groceries thru subway and bus systems thru stairs.

While diabetes.ca and diabetes.org have great info for variety of menus it's mostly plant based and free of any highly processed foods that's the key.

Nature is our ally...it knows we screw up now and then, but unless we remain negligent to symptoms, such as poor sleep, overweight, unfit and stiff body, things can get too bad to reverse.
I hope you get to enjoy the health and vitality u deserve!

I experience varying degrees of head pressure from mild to thinking my head will explode. I do have PPPD/Vestibular Migraine so that must figure in somehow. Sitting up and standing up usually increases the pressure (PPPD) and then it somewhat subsides. Propranolol has seemed to help a lot. I live in Denver so weather changes, probably like everyone else, can have a bit impact.
You're not alone. Unless experienced, it really can be described accurately.

This is good it looks at the blood vessels in your brain. This could be very important and is part of the work up for intracranial hypertension and other issues.

It is good anytime there is a vision change to get the eye looked at, it can tell optic nerve damage or swelling ncalled papiledema.
