I eat a lot of fish, maybe 3 times a week and it's helped (83)...good luck !

Ever so slowly...HDL is hard to raise, mine was 30 and now is 36, I want to hit 40 to at least be within normal range. On a positive point my LDL is 35! Exercise is the best thing for HDL and believe some Omega 3 via fish or a supplement, I prefer to eat the fish and use the supplement as an an on. I just started that part so we will see at my next blood test...

Mine was in the low to mid 40’s for 20+ years. I raised it to the high 70’s through daily moderate exercise, adopting a very low carb diet, and shedding 55+ lbs, which I’ve maintained for 4+ years. it is possible but takes effort. 60 years old,

Hi @swilkins1974, Thanks for starting such an important discussion. I wished I would have focused on maintaining healthier numbers a little earlier in life but I guess it's never too late to work on getting healthier. You will notice that we added a little to your discussion title so hopefully more members will see it and be able to share their experience or learn from others. Here are some references I found that I thought might be helpful to share:

I developed 70% artery clogs diagnosed in October, 2022. At that time, I switched all protein intake to fish, nuts and beans. My HDL level is rising slowly (48 in April, 2023) and my LDL level has been stable around 70. My HDL needs to rise higher to be able to remove some of the clogged artery substances and please my Cardiologist. The journey continues while I take 12 weeks of Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation from June to August, 2023. Stay tuned! I hope my experience is helpful.

Sorry about the specifics...all of the above are to improve your overall cholesterol numbers. I think it's all related but here are two specifically on how to raise the HDL numbers.

--- HDL cholesterol: How to boost your 'good' cholesterol: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/hdl-cholesterol/art-20046388
--- How to Boost Your 'Good' Cholesterol: https://www.webmd.com/heart/how-to-boost-your-good-cholesterol

Have you discussed it with your doctor to see if they may have any suggestions specific for your current health condition?
