Have you tried Nuzyra or meropenem for MAC treatment?
I am 81 and have been DX with BE for 23 yrs. I have had MAC for 5 years. I have tried the Big 3 but have never been able to go full term. I have tried most of the standards meds but always had an allergic reaction to them. I am now infusing Nuzyra and Meropenem. Has anyone ever used these drugs? I haven't seen a discussion on them. My ID doc says these are the last drugs she knows to try.

I have used Nuzyra twice for M. Abscesses. The first was in 2019 with the first 6 months by PICC line and then orally when the medication became available as a tablet. I had some GI distress but not too bad. More recently I again needed treatment and this time with oral Nuzyra and Linezolid. That was a 5 week beat down because of severe nausea with weight loss. At National Jewish both were stopped and I was better within 5 days. So for me Nuzyra by IV is a lot easier than oral. Linezolid is a definite no fly for me. I will await input from National Jewish about starting another round. Best of luck. Remember there will always be choices!

I took it for 5 months too. I took it in the middle of the night when I got up to pee. (I’m 73). Took it with Clofazimine and another drug. Never got to negative sputums. Side effects of all meds combined wasn’t worth it since they weren’t working so I quit. But the nuzyra worked best in terms of avoiding the nausea at that time.
